In his remarks at the event, Deputy Director of the Center for Communication of Resources and Environment Vu Minh Ly said that according to the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020, manufacturers and importers were responsible for recycling packaging products for 6 groups of products, collecting and treating waste for 6 groups of products, and packaging full of toxic chemicals and difficult to recycle.
In particular, the roadmap sets out for manufacturers and importers to carry out the responsibility of recycling tires, batteries, accumulators, lubricants, and products with packaging starting from January 1, 2024.
Manufacturers importing electrical and electronic products must carry out the recycling responsibility from January 1, 2025. Meanwhile, manufacturers and importers of means of transport (cars, motorbikes) must carry out the recycling responsibility from January 1, 2027.
This is a policy that helps to solve the current plastic waste problems and also kickstarts the circular economy in Viet Nam, laying the initial foundation for the formation and development of a modern and environmentally friendly recycling industry.
Also at the event, a contest to seek green solutions towards a circular economy and sustainable development was launched. Its aim was to spread and honour useful experience, ideas, models and initiatives in waste treatment, especially plastic waste.
In addition, the contest contributes to promoting the creativity of the community in daily life and production in order to effectively reduce, manage and treat plastic waste, thereby boosting the circular economy.
