Representatives from around 300 businesses across Da Nang, on Tuesday, attended a seminar themed ‘Green transformation: Sustainable development trend for businesses’ in the city.

The event was co-hosted by the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the Sohaco Global Group JSC, the Green Yellow Vietnam Co., Ltd. and the Jinko Solar Industry Co., Ltd.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thi Thuy Mai said that green transformation and sustainable development are determined as the main trends in the local business community in the coming time.

Currently, there is a need for greening requirements in production in the city and grasping the green shift trend in the world and Viet Nam, thereby having detailed roadmaps for green transformation in businesses.

Citing data and the decline in export activities in the city in the first 9 months of 2023, Director of the city’s Statistics Bureau Tran Van Vu noted that importing countries tended to issue regulations on sustainable production, also known as green and environmentally friendly production.

He also explained the reason for the textile, footwear, and seafood industries having recently lacked 30-45% of orders is that they do not implement green transformation in production.

He noted most of businesses only paid a lot of attention to quantity, not really to quality and the improvement of product quality. Many businesses are slow in management and technological innovation.

Mr. Vu, therefore, stressed the need for ministries, branches and localities to facilitate businesses to access preferential loans in a bid to boost green transformation and technological innovation.

Priority should be given to developing human resources, seeing this as an infinite source of raw materials for promoting the city’s sustainable development because there are no fossil raw materials or natural raw materials in the city, he added.

A representative of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade informed that in recent times, the industry and trade sector has supported and promoted the application of solutions to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and implement green transformation, towards sustainable development in production and business activities.

Accordingly, groups of solutions were introduced, including promoting the application of solutions on management, technology, equipment, and techniques for economical and efficient use of energy; exploiting and using new energy sources, and renewable and clean energy; applying comprehensive solutions to manage, exploit, and economically and effectively use resources, raw materials, and fuel inputs in production activities, minimise waste into the environment, and make the most of opportunities to apply circular and sharing economy models.

In addition to the aforementioned solutions, businesses are required to implement greenhouse gas emissions inventory from 2023; develop plans and self-implement measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions until 2025; and comply with the allocated greenhouse gas emission quotas from 2026 onwards.

​During the event, a number of solutions for green transformation in industry were introduced, such as the ESCO model (short for Energy Service Company) which is a service-oriented energy company model, and new generation TOPCon N-Type technology.
