In his remarks at the event, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Transport Nguyen Trung Nghia said that, over recent time, the unit has focused on beautifying urban landscape, thereby contributing to gradually building a city having a transportation system that responds to the development of the society and the travel needs of locals.
In addition, the city's Traffic Safety Committee has launched movements to build a traffic cultural and civilised urban lifestyle, hereby effectively promoting the 'City of 4 Safe' programme.
The most prominent feature has been to widely publicise the wearing of quality-standard helmets while being on motorbikes.
As a result, nearly 100% of people in Da Nang participating in traffic by motorbikes and electric motorbikes wear helmets, especially quality standard ones.
Mr. Nghia emphasised that his agency has proposed options for regulations to protect children in cars; as well as shared good practices and international experience on the application of child safety equipment in cars after regulations requiring the use of child safety equipment in cars are mandatory.
According to the city’s Centre for Health Consulting and Community Development, there are about 1,800-2,000 traffic accidents involving children every year, of which about 600-700 cases are related to automobiles.
If regulations on the use of child safety equipment are applied effectively, the number of cases of children suffering particularly serious injuries or deaths in cars each year can reduce by 400-500.
During the event, participants discussed and contributed their ideas on the necessity of using safety equipment for children in cars when participating in traffic.
