Cooler temperatures expected in the mid-central region from Thursday night

At 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, some roads and areas in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang were still submerged under as much as 0.4-0.8 m of water, even though the water level on the Yen River reached its peak at 3:00 a.m on the same day.

Water levels were slowly receding in the Cu De and Tuy Loan rivers as the pace of decline in water levels was very slow.

The A Vuong, Song Bung 4 and Dak Mi 4 hydropower plants continue to operate for flood reduction in the downstream of the Vu Gia River. Floodwaters on the Vu Gia and Yen rivers are receding slowly due to discharges from reservoirs into downstream of the Vu Gia River at 460m3/s. Floodwaters are expected to recede fully in affected areas in Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District, at the end of Wednesday.

According to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, a cold snap is heading south over the country, and it may usher in rain, cooler temperatures and gusty winds across the mid-central region.

From Wednesday night, the waters of the Hoang Sa Islands could experience strong northeasterly winds of levels 7 to 8, gustiness of level 9, rough seas with waves as high as 4-6 m.

From Thursday, a warning for northeasterly winds at level 6, sometimes at level 7, and the gusts reaching above level 8, rough seas with waves as high as 3-6 m is issued to the open waters off the Quang Binh – Quang Ngai Coast, including Da Nang.

The cold front will bring cooler temperatures to the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien- Hue from Thursday night as the minimum temperature is predicted to drop to 17 to 19 degrees Celsius in Quang Binh, and 19 to 22 degrees Celsius in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue, even 17 to 19 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas.

Cold front will also see temperatures plummet in the parts from  Da Nang to Quang Ngai, with temperatures expected to range from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. The coolest temperatures are in the early morning and at night across these areas.

National forecasters have predicted moderate to heavy rain to continue in the parts  from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, until Friday, November 17, with some areas experiencing very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms can produce strong winds, lightning, hail and tornadoes, the national weather forecasters have warned.
