During his working session on Wednesday with the Da Nang Cooperative Alliance, municipal People’s Council Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet urged local government departments and agencies, authorities at local level, and relevant units to raise awareness of the collective economy among officials and civil servants. This will help show special attention of authorities at all levels, and create motivation for local people to participate in cooperative groups and cooperatives.

He also directed the city’s Cooperative Alliance to review and re-evaluate the current situation of cooperatives, thereby grasping the specific needs, aspirations, and proposals of cooperatives for promoting the development of cooperatives in the time to come.

Relevant departments, branches and units need to review existing policies related to the collective economy with a focus on feasibility, ease of access, and have an evaluation report on policies from now until December 15, 2023, Mr. Triet noted.

According to the municipal Cooperative Alliance, till date, the whole city has 274 cooperative groups with 2,159 members and total business capital of more than VND40 billion, creating stable jobs for more than 4,500 workers.

Also, there are 148 cooperatives and cooperative unions with total charter capital of VND367.7 billion, attracting 9,503 members, and creating jobs for 14,937 people.

At present, 26 policies, issued by the central and municipal governments, are being applied in the city, aimed at supporting trade promotion, promoting market expansion and technological innovation, and strengthening collective economic organisations and cooperatives

During the meeting, the city’s Cooperative Alliance proposed the Standing Committee of the City People's Council to facilitate its members to access preferential capital sources and develop production and business activities; as well as set up centers for displaying and supporting the consumption of cooperative products.

The importance should be attached to building a pilot cooperative model; issuing support policies for OCOP product development; and removing difficulties and obstacles in implementing finance-related policies.
