In its efforts to give poor school pupils extra strength to continue their studies for a brighter future, the Hoa Vang District’s Youth Union Organisation has launched the ‘Study Corner for Poor Students’ program with the aim of helping these pupils set up a study corner for them at home, thereby facilitating them to overcome on their path to knowledge to become dutiful children, and achieve academic success.

In line with the Prime Minister- approved Da Nang Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to to 2050, Hoa Vang District strives to be recognized as a fourth-class urban area by 2025, as well as recognized as a town soonest.

Alongside promoting local economic and social development, as well as ensuring national defense and security, Hoa Vang District identifies educational development as its important task. However, compared to other localities in the city, Hoa Vang currently grapples with a higher ratio of poor and near-poor households, and limited material resources for students to study at home, affecting their academic performance.

Talking about developing the idea for the "Study Corner for Poor Students" program, District Party Committee Secretary To Van Hung said: "On November 20, 2022, I visited the Nguyen Tri Phuong Junior School in Hoa Bac Commune. There, I listened to teachers sharing about the school’s disadvantaged students. They only had a makeshift study space at home, sometimes just a plastic table with a stool for doing their homework. This motivated me to think about how we could help them set up a proper, durable study corner for them at home in order to inject motivation for them to diligently excel in school. Thus, I wrote an appealing letter to call for cash donation from local agencies, units, and businesses to create a cherished study corner for pupils in difficult circumstances, helping them achieve their goals."

After a brief period, the "Study Corner for Poor Students" program has received strong support from local communities, and it has successfully raised funds to set up  study corners at home for 274 disadvantaged students in Hoa Bac Commune.

Mr. Le Van Hoang, the Head of the Hoa Vang District Office of Education and Training remarked that the "Study Corner for Poor Students" program aims to raise awareness among students and their parents about the important role of self-study at home. Providing students with a dedicated study space enhances their enthusiasm for learning, and fosters academic advancement.

Secretary of Hoa Vang District’s Youth Union Organistion Nguyen Thi Giang Thuy, shared that between 2022 and November 2023, the program helped set up a study corner at home for 678 local poor students, and such a corner will be handed out to 300 others by the end of December 2023. This is part of the district’s goal to provide study corners, including desks, bookshelves, chairs, and desk lamps, for 1,000 disadvantaged students across 11 communes in the district. Each study corner costs VND 1.4 million dong, with the total funds amounted VND 1.5 billion raised from local agencies, units, and philanthropists.

"Building upon the success of the program, in the coming time, the Hoa Vang District Youth Union Organisation intends to expand the 'Study Corner for Kids' program into the 11 communes, playing a vital role in nurturing dreams and ambitions for students from challenging backgrounds and helping them confidently stride along their educational paths," Mrs. Thuy added.

With the care and support of political and social organizations, along with generous donors, in addressing the needs of students, particularly those in difficult circumstances, the "Study Corner for Poor Students" program demonstrates the nation's morality of “Loving others as you love yourself” and "The intact leaves protect tattered ones" in an effort to bring joy to poor students, and help them achieve academic success.
