Recognizing the critical role of marine conservation, the Ocean and River Cleanup Enterprise under the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC, has proactively deployed its workers to local beaches to keep them clean, and they have worked tirelessly both by day and by night.

Besides, heed has been paid to launching public education campaigns to raise their awareness on marine conservation, opening training courses on beach waste management for sanitation workers. Furthermore, trash bins are placed along the beaches in a bid to promote a culture of personal responsibility toward the environment. As a result, these multifaceted efforts have culminated in a marked enhancement of coastal cleanliness.

In the late days of November and the beginning of December 2023, despite the cool, rainy weather, sanitation workers have diligently cleaned up Da Nang’s beaches located in Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, Hai Chau, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts. They were engaged in cleaning up and collecting trash from thick layers of sand, and transporting it to designated disposal sites and facilities.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Nga, a sanitation worker, shared that she is the oldest member in her team, she starts her work at 3:00 am -4:00 am each day to ensure the beaches are clean by morning to welcome local residents and tourists.

After a few hours of diligent trash collection efforts by sanitation workers, the beaches are left clean for locals and tourists.

Like Nga, Ms. Le Thi Yen Ly has stayed at the Ocean and River Cleanup Enterprise for over a decade. She starts his daily work in the early morning so that the beaches are left clean, and beautiful at sunrise.

"I want to contribute to my community by doing my meaningful job in an attempt to reduce waste, and keep the beaches clean and beautiful," Ms. Ly stated.

These environmental protection activities are not limited to sanitation workers but they also inspire local residents to follow.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau Anh, a local resident who regularly picks up trash during her morning exercises at the My Khe beach, shared that a lot of trash washes ashore Da Nang’s beaches during the rainy and stormy season. Therefore, she frequently brings a bag along during her exercise to collect the trash from the beach.

"Da Nang's beaches are beautiful, but they are still littered with trash. Hence, beach trash collection efforts need to be promoted among local residents. I am delighted to be doing something meaningful to make the city’s beaches cleaner and more beautiful," Ms. Anh shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, the Director of the Ocean and River Cleanup Enterprise, mechanical devices are used to remove litter and debris from the beach in order to ease the physical strain on the workers, and elevate the efficiency and the sanitation quality at local beaches.

Amid the current rainy and stormy season, there has been a notable surge of waste drifting ashore on local beaches, particularly along the Vo Nguyen Giap and Nguyen Tat Thanh coastal routes. Therefore, focus has been paid to intensifying cleaning efforts in order to keep such popular beaches as Pham Van Dong, My Khe, and My An beaches clean.

The use of mechanized vehicles on the beaches has markedly expedited the trash collection process and bolstered the timely removal of trash.

Heading into 2024, the Ocean and River Cleanup Enterprise will continue its efforts to take effective measures to keep local beaches cleaner and more beautiful, thereby attracting more tourists to the city, and contributing to driving the city’s economic growth, as well as developing Da Nang into one of the most eco-friendly cities in Viet Nam.
