60-year-old Le Thi Mai, a resident of An Ngai Tay 2 Village shared with excitement that she has suffered a life-threatening illness for over ten years while her husband passed away more than a year ago, and with both of her children living in poverty so that they are unable to offer much support to her.

Her family is among the poor households in the village. Therefore, she has enjoyed benefits from the Piggy Bank campaign as she has received 30 donated chicks in order to help her earn income and improve her living conditions.

Echoing Mrs. Mai's joy, Ms. Tran Thi Thuong, 75, who is also an An Ngai Tay villager said: "My family is impoverished, me and my husband are all old, we cannot work. Our children who live far away, and are also struggling financially. Thanks to the Piggy Bank campaign, our family has received donated chicks, allowing us to earn money from selling chickens and eggs to cover daily food expenses and medical costs whenever we fall ill."

The An Ngai Tay 2 Village is now home to 650 households that are living in 8 residential areas, many of them face challenging circumstances.

The "Piggy Bank" Campaign has been pivotal in helping numerous disadvantaged families stabilize their lives. Each year, 8 piggy banks are built in the village with each valued at around 1 VND million. The village’s woman organization will break their piggy banks to help poor and disadvantaged people by the end of the year. The money raised by piggy banks will be used for providing livelihood support, giving gifts and visiting the sick on public holidays, New Year and Tet festival.

The campaign has seen enthusiastic participation of the members of the village’s Women's organization, who put money aside for savings and charity in a bid to contribute to the 'piggy bank.' The organization doesn't limit itself to build 'piggy bank' but it is active in making money with  recyclable materials through the launch of the 'Waste Segregation at Source' campaign to support single and disabled women. It can be said that the Piggy Bank campaign spreads a positive message in local communities, and gives the strength to people in difficult circumstances to overcome challenges in life

Since 2019, the commune has built nearly 687 piggy bank, amounting to a total of VND 240 million. Raised funds are aiding needy families and students in difficult circumstances.

Over the past five years, the Red Cross of Hoa Son Commune has raised over 1 VND billion from individuals and organizations to support poor families, the orphans, single seniors, victims of Agent Orange, and those in need. In addition, assistance has been given  to the poor to build new houses and repair downgraded homes.
