Promoting bravery, wisdom, and valuable experience of the elderly

In his remarks at the 3rd open conference of the Executive Board of the Viet Nam Association of the Elderly for the 2021-2026 tenure opened in Da Nang on Thursday, municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang congratulated the Association on its outstanding achievements in recent times, significantly contributing to mobilising and encouraging the elderly to participate in the cause of building and defending the nation.

Mr. Quang said that in 2023, in the context of many difficulties and challenges, the Party Committee, government and people of the city have promoted the tradition of solidarity and effectively taken solutions on building the Party and political system, and boost the socio-economic recovery and development, thereby maintaining political security, social order and safety in the locality.

Currently, the city is focusing on rolling out solutions to promote economic growth with the driving force being the fields of services, tourism, hi-tech, and information technology industry associated with the building of a digital economy and a smart city. At the same time, the special attention is being paid to training and attracting human resources in semiconductor industry, he added.

According to the municipal official, the city now has over 112,000 elderly people, of which, there are more than 98,000 elderly members, nearly 13,000 elderly are Party members, nearly 12,000 participate in forces to maintain security and order, and study promotion work. This is the core force contributing to implementing '5 No's, 3 Yes's' programe and 'City of 4 Safe Programmes' campaign.

He highlighted that conference provided an opportunity for city leaders, the Board of Representatives of the city’s Association of Elderly and localities to exchange and learn from experience to further improve the effectiveness of the association's operations.

According to the report, currently the Viet Nam Association of the Elderly has over 10 million members, accounting for over 90% of the total elderly population in the country. Every year, over 1.2 million elderly people are wished and celebrated their longevity. Four million elderly people have records for regular health check-ups.

On the occasion, the Viet Nam Association of the Elderly awarded Emulation Flags to 5 leading units nationwide in 2023, namely Ha Noi, Ha Tinh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa and Da Nang. Certificates of Merit were given out to groups and individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in association work in 2023.

In addition, the Viet Nam Association of the Elderly awarded 200 gifts, totalling VND400 million, to the elderly in difficult circumstances in Da Nang.
