Da Nang's efforts to help local residents have happy Lunar New Year 2024

In their efforts to promote the Vietnamese traditions of "Repaying gratitude", and “When drinking water, remember its source”, as well as make sure that all residents have a warm and joyful Lunar Year (Tet), the authorities at all levels in Da Nang are focusing on giving Tet gifts to policy beneficiary families, those in need and vulnerable people. Apart from giving Tet gifts, the city’s leaders have also paid visits to the most remote areas in Da Nang to ensure good care of disadvantaged families as the Tet holiday is nearing, contributing to ensuring effective implementation of the city’s social welfare policy.

In recent days, the city’s leaders have paid pre-Tet visits and given Tet gifts to Co Tu ethnic minority people in Ta Lang and Gian Bi villages, Hoa Bac Commune, plus Phu Tuc Village, Hoa Phu Commune and Chinese-Vietnamese people in Trung Nghia Village, Hoa Ninh Commune, all in Hoa Vang District in order to show deep concern and great care for local residenrs, thereby strengthening relationship between the municipal government and its people.

Apart from caring for policy beneficiary families, and revolution contributors during public holidays and Tet Festival in line with the national government’s regulations, the city has spent a lot amount of money on giving gifts to policy beneficiary families, heroic Vietnamese mothers, war invalids, and martyrs’ families. Furthermore, practical support has been provided for displaced and relocated families in an attempt that make sure that no one gets left behind during the coming Tet Festival.

Importance has been attached to extending the helping hands towards the poor and needy. From January 18 to 21, the Da Nang Labour Federation organized the 2024 Trade Union Tet Market at a square near the Lien Chieu District Administrative Center. Themed "Tet Reunion - Spring Sharing", the 4-day event featured more than 70 booths of 40 businesses to offer essential goods at a flat or stabilized price, and at discounts ranging from 5 – 50% in addition to offering other incentives to trade union members, employees, workers, and contractors in the city. The event aimed to support trade union members, employees, workers, and contractors who are living in difficult circumstances.

Also at the event, there were cultural and entertainment programmes, exciting games to win amazing prizes, and employment consulting services for trade union members and workers.

To mark this occasion, the Da Nang Labour Federation donated 30,000 shopping vouchers worth VND 3 billion in total to disadvantaged trade union members and workers to do shopping at the Trade Union Tet Market. Furthermore, 2,500 online gift vouchers totaling VND 750 million have been offered to trade union members to allow them to shop on the e-commerce platform of the Trade Union Tet Market. Moreover, 19,900 gifts, including 8,000 gifts funded by the city budget, with a total cost of nearly 10 VND billion were given to trade union members and workers who are living in difficult circumstances.

In these days leading up to the Tet Festival, many businesses and originations have been active in supporting and sharing with poor and disadvantaged people, including college students. Gifts like food, cash, bus tickets have made their heart feel warm due to the care and sharing of local communities towards them. Material and spiritual support will be given to students who are unable to return to their hometown and stay in their dormitory to celebrate Tet by organizations and their schools in an effort to help them have a happy and warm Tet during these days away from their families.

The Da Nang government has also spent nearly VND 20 billion on both floral displays and lighting decorations in a bid to create joyful and boisterous atmosphere during the Tet Festival, as well as help local people and tourists have a joyful Tet Festival. Major downtown streets and public places will be festooned with strings of illuminative lights and ornamental decorations. Along with that, cultural events will take place on both banks of the Han River to entertain locals and tourists.

With two weeks left until the Lunar New Year 2024 - the Year of Dragon which begins on February 10, the authorities at all levels and organizations in Da Nang are exerting every effort to give ‘Spring of love’ gifts to those in need in order to help all citizens in the city have a joyful, peaceful and happy Tet.
