Bien Thi Mai Trinh and her husband who are living in Duong Son Village, Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang Suburban District have been married for over 30 years and have two daughters. Due to their poor living conditions, their two daughters divorced their husbands, and moved away from home for work, leaving their four children to be raised by their grandparents, including a child with mobility impairment.

Mrs. Trinh’s mother-in-law with a movement disorder after a stroke is now aged 80. Therefore, her mother-in-law depends on Trinh and her husband for daily activities. Meanwhile, her husband, Mr. Nguyen Duc Vuong, cannot do physical labour because of his rheumatoid arthritis. All living expenses of Mrs. Trinh’s family replies on income earned from her “Banh Xeo” or sizzling rice pancakes shop. In addition, she has to care for her aging mother-in-law and four grandchildren. She and her husband have busy morning to night routine every day, but they still show love and care to their family members.

In recent years, her family has frequently honoured with the title of “Cultural Family” as her family has set a good example of filial piety and positive parenting for others to follow.

“In the past, my mother-in-law worked hard to raise her husband, and care for her children, as well as became the fulcrum of her family. Now, I see my mother-in-law getting weak and older so I and my husband are responsible for taking the best possible care of her. At the same time, we teach our children and grandchildren about filial piety towards those who gave birth to them, and raised them," Mrs. Trinh shared.

In November 2023, the Da Nang Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection honoured Mrs. Trinh as a shinning example of filial piety with a certificate of merit, as well as provided financial support valued at VND 50 million which was funded by the Ha Giang Phuoc Tuong Mechanical Joint Stock Company in order to help her take better care of her mother-in-law and grandchildren.

Similarly, Mrs. Tran Thi Duyen and her husband who are living in Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District are among good examples of filial piety receiving financial support from the above-mentioned program.

Mrs. Duyen and her husband are taking care of their three children while caring for her aging birth mother and grandmother. Her family with four generations living together under the same roof is living in an old house that is being temporarily borrowed by her relatives.

During Mrs. Duyen's maternity leave, all living expenses of her family replied on income earned by her husband who works as a ride-hailing driver. Despite their financial difficulties, Duyen and her husband managed to take the best possible care of her aging birth mother and grandmother in order to show love, respect, support, and deference to their parents and other elders in the family.

In July 2023, the Da Nang Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection awarded a certificate of merit and provided VND 50 million in funding from donors, for Mrs. Duyen to help her buy a sewing machine to earn income in order to cover her family’s living expense.

Thanks to the support from the above-mentioned program, many poor people have been helped with livelihoods support to assist them move out of poverty and stabilize their lives.

Especially, Mrs. Le Thi Chanh's family living in Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District is among those who have received financial assistance from this program. She is taking care of her aging mother-in-law who has had a stroke while caring for her husband who is suffering from a life-threatening disease, and raising her two school-age children. Previously, she had earned an average monthly income of VND 3 to 4 million from sewing. However, her old sewing machine with low capacity had resulted in low income.

After receiving VND 50 million in funding from this program in late 2022, Mrs. Chanh used a part of the donated money to cover her family’s living expenses, and then use the remainder to buy a new sewing machine and redecorate her tailor shop. Therefore, she attracted more customers to her tailor shop, helping her increase her income to take better care of her family.
