Hydropower reservoir owners must ensure water supply for Da Nang during Tet
The Da Nang People's Committee has just issued Official Dispatch No. 724/UBND-STNMT dated February 2, 2024 requesting owners of A Vuong, Song Bung 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, Song Bung 6 and Dak Mi 4 hydropower reservoirs to ensure water supply for Da Nang during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.
In recent days, the Cam Le River at the intake of raw water into the Cau Do (Red Bridge) Water Supply Plant has severely affected by the intrusion of saline water |
Accordingly, authorities in Da Nang requested the owners of A Vuong, Song Bung 4, Dak Mi 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, and Song Bung 6 hydropower reservoirs to operate their reservoirs with the flow and time of water discharge to the downstream of the Vu Gia River in accordance with the inter-reservoir operating procedures in the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin promulgated in Prime Minister-issued Decision No. 1865/QD-TTg dated December 23, 2019.
To prevent the lowering of the water level on the Yen River at the An Trach Dam, leading to the risk of water shortage in Da Nang during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon, the municipal People's Committee requests the owners of hydropower reservoirs to coordinate and promptly handle issues related to water supply to the downstream.
In recent days, the Cam Le River at the intake of raw water into the Cau Do (Red Bridge) Water Supply Plant has severely affected by the intrusion of saline water, with the highest salinity level of being more than 706mg/l, 2.3 times higher than the allowed limit.
The hike in saltwater intrusion is mainly attributed to an increase of tide levels and sea waves due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, especially in the days leading to Tet 2024.
The Da Nang Water Supply JSC is operating two anti-salinity pumping stations in the upstream of the An Trach Dam in order to bring fresh water from Yen River to the Cau Do and Airport Water Plants.
