Making Da Nang more green, clean and beautiful
In their efforts to support Da Nang government’s policy on launching a tree planting campaign in combination with an environmental movement, right after the Lunar New Year 2024, localities and units across the city have been active in launching a response to the Tree Planting Festival. At the same time, special attention has been paid to conducting environmental cleanups, and cleaning up vacant lots and sparsely populated areas. The intention is to increase tree cover in urban areas, as well as make the city more green, clean and beautiful.

As usual, before starting the official working day after the Lunar New Year holiday, the Ngu Hanh Son District People's Committee along with wards and units in the district simultaneously launched the Tree Planting Festival combined with an environmental movement in the early morning of February 15 (the sixth day of the first lunar month).
Mr. Bach Ngoc Hai, the Chairman of the My An Ward People's Committee said that the Tree Planting Festival on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, and the Tree Planting Campaign as a whole, has seen active involvement of authorities at local level, organizations, units and residents across the ward in an attempt to increase tree cover in parks, schools, agency headquarters, vacant lots and other urban areas. Furthermore, local residents are also active in caring for trees and participating in environmental cleanups, especially on weekends, in an effort to keep their local areas green, clean, and beautiful to meet their needs for enjoyment, entertainment, health and safety.
Meanwhile, Khue My Ward chose to a newly-built dead-end road where there are a lot of vacant plots and the Sen Hong (Pink Lotus) Preschool is located on to plant trees in response to the above-mentioned Festival. The planted trees in this road was funded by socializing capital.
“Planting and caring for trees, building green schools, and keeping local streets green, clean and beautiful are regular tasks of local communities. Especially, focus is on increasing the use of socializing capital in tree planting in a bid to increase tree cover in urban areas, thereby helping the city meet the criteria of a class-1 city ", Chairman of the Khue My Ward People's Committee Nguyen Cong Hoa remarked.
Apart from increasing the use of socializing capital in planting trees in parks, stroll gardens, apartment buildings, and other public spaces, Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward People's Committee also engages local people in keeping the environment clean and beautiful by encouraging their participation in cleaning up sparsely populated areas, sidewalks and vacant lots. At the same time, heed is paid to taking disciplinary actions against organizations and individuals for illegal dumping violation.
Residents in the Hoa Phu 6 residential area in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District feel really happy seeing a vacant land with more than 1,000 square meters at the end of Dinh Duc Thien Street to be planted with such trees as maple, grapefruit, and areca during the recent Tree Planting Festival. In addition, the ward authority has also encouraged the participation of local people in cleaning up this land and vacant lots on surrounding roads. contributing to turning this place into a clean and beautiful park and stroll garden.
Mr. Vo Thanh Van, the Secretary of the Party Cell of the Hoa Phu 6 residential area, said that the residential area has 24 roads and 640 households that are residing over an area of 700 hectares. Therefore, there are still many vacant plots in this area. In their efforts to support the municipal government’s policy, local residents have been active in cleaning up roads and sidewalks, as well as planting trees on the vacant land measuring 2,200 square meters at the corner of Le Van Si - Tot Dong streets. They are also engaged in the ‘Green, Clean, Beautiful Sunday’ campaign, as well as growing vegetables, and fruits on vacant lots to keep their local area green, clean and beautiful.
According to the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Da Nang government has directed units and authorities at local level across the city to simultaneously launch a tree-planting campaign combined with an environmental movement on Saturdays and Sundays in February and March in an attempt to continue to yield positive outcomes in protecting the environment, as well as creating a breakthrough in implementing a project to make Da Nang a more eco-friendly city in 2024 associated with the implementation of tasks and solutions for management, protection and development of forests, protecting the environment, contributing to mitigating natural disasters and responding to climate change.
Heed is also paid to engaging local communities in cleaning up beaches, main roads, public areas (including airport, bus and railway stations, vacant lots, and residential areas. Importance is attached to promoting municipal household waste management by waste classification and recycling, as encouraging locals to reduce their plastic use.
At the same time, special attention is paid to enhancing the sustainability of waste management practices, as well as reducing or eliminating sources of pollution to prevent damage to the environment while also eliminating the need for costly controls and cleanup. Along with that, importance is attached to construction and delivery of environmental protection works for the benefits of the community.
