Every month, the "Border Guard Scissorhands" Team of the Guard Platoon (the Office of the Da Nang Border Guard Command) provide free haircuts for seniors, children, and people in difficult circumstances, along with those living at the Da Nang Care Center for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution. Engaging with such an event left privates Tran Viet Hung and Truong Van Quoc with beautiful memories during their military service.

Being born into a Da Nang family where his father was a construction worker while my mother was a seamstress, Tran Viet Hung was passionate about hair cutting and styling. His family is living in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District.

In late 2021, Hung joined the Army as an enlisted soldier, and then underwent basic military training at the Mobile Battalion of the Quang Binh Provincial Border Guard Command. During his basis training process, Hung volunteered to become a member of a team of professional haircutters after being asked about his haircutting skills by his platoon leader. During this period, Hung took the time to give free haircuts to his comrades on Saturdays and Sundays.

After completing his basis military training program, Hung was transferred to the Guard Platoon (the Office of the Da Nang Border Guard Command). He was very happy to learn that the municipal Border Guard’s Youth Union organization has set up its own "Border Guard Scissorhands"  group. As an active member of this group, Hung regularly participates in the free haircuts program for seniors, children, and people in difficult circumstances, along with those living at the Da Nang Care Center for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution.

Hung said that he tried to do his utmost to ensure orphaned and deaf children who are living at the Village of Hope get the best haircut possible in a bid to make them happy when he has visited this place for the first time.

Furthermore, the young border soldier felt happy as he could be able to listen to stories of the revolutionary veterans about their youth during the years of defending the Fatherland while giving free haircuts to them when he has visited the municipal Care Center for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution for the second time.

“I was truly touched by the stories of the revolutionary veterans. Giving free haircuts to them provided the opportunity for young people like me to show gratitude to revolution contributors, and those who devoted their youth to fight for the country's peace, reunification, and independence during the past two resistance wars," Hung confided.

Private Truong Van Quoc is not only known as a skilled hairdresser but also known as a honest soldier. Recently, Quoc found a lost Samsung cell phone valued at over VND 10 million VND on Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Thach Thang Ward, Hai Chau District while participating in environmental cleanups around his military unit. Quoc then asked for help from his unit’s commanders to find the owner of the lost item. Finally, the lost property was returned to its owner, Mr. Tran Minh Tuan, a resident of Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District. He was honored with a certificate of merit from the Municipal Border Guard Command for his beautiful action and honesty.

“Before joining the army, I thought it would be months of arduous training during my military service but participating in meaningful activities has taught me about how to understand and share the feelings of others. Furthermore, I can improve my haircutting skills while performing voluntary military service. After being discharged from the army, I will continue to work as a hairdresser," Quoc remarked.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Hung, the Deputy Political Commissar of the Da Nang Border Guard Command, said that based on practical requirements, the unit is equipped with such items as a trimmer and a chair totaling VND 2 million in order to create the most favorable conditions for young soldiers with haircutting skills to practise and improve their professional skills to serve their comrades. Moreover, the unit also engages its soldiers in giving free haircuts to those in need and senior citizens, especially people who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution in a bid to help them show gratitude to revolution contributors, thereby promoting the noble virtues of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
