On Monday evening, Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang inspected the progress of the project on upgrading and embellishing the Peace Monument and expanding the March 29 Square.

He was accompanied by Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, and representatives of leaders of relevant departments, agencies and localities.

During the inspection visit, Secretary Quang requested the municipal Department of Culture and Sports to research and adjust the water music programme and have a suitable theme to increase its attraction. At the same time, the focus should be on organising a number of sideline programmes to maximise the square's functions.

In addition, he requested the Department of Construction will soon complete the project to effectively manage and exploit the square's functions. As well as, the department should coordinate with authorities in Hai Chau District to ensure security and order, traffic safety, parking in the square area, he added.

The city Party Chief asked the Da Nang Radio and Television Station to produce and present programmes about Da Nang on the two LED screens in the square, especially the content suitable for teenagers.

Mr. Quang urged relevant units to plant suitable trees with straight shapes, as well as install appropriate lights, in the campus of the Peace Monument and the March 29 Square.

For unfinished items, Secretary Quang requested relevant units to coordinate and urge contractors to ensure compliance with time and progress requirements of the project, especially its quality and aesthetics.
