Da Nang promotes social work development in all fields

Government departments and agencies, plus localities, must pay attention to social work officials and collaborators, as well as promote the development of social work in all fields, especially in schools, hospitals, the judicial sector, businesses, and private establishments.

The direction was made by Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong at a ceremony held in the city on Saturday to celebrate Viet Nam's Social Work Day 2024.

Vice Chairman Cuong said that after nearly 15 years of implementing the national government-issued social work profession development project, the city has basically achieved its set goals.

Specifically, the city has issued many resolutions, plans, programmes and projects in the fields of social security, poverty reduction, support for people with disabilities, the elderly, and children in special circumstances. Notable among them are the ‘5 No's, 3 Yes's' and 'City of 4 Safe' programmes.

In addition to, the city called on socialisation sources from generous organisations and individuals to support the needy during Tet, or those affected by natural disasters, fires and epidemics.

The city’s system of social work service providers has been developed in both quantity and quality, diverse in types and fields of supply, ensuring the regulations on social assistance standards.

In particular, the city’s Social Work Centre is the focal point in connecting and providing social work services for the disadvantaged.

The city has built the network of social workers of over 7,000 people, becoming an extended arms reaching out to communities and households to support vulnerable people to effectively access services and policies.

On the occasion, 17 individuals were honoured by the municipal People's Committee in recognition of their great contributions to social work. Also, gifts were given to 40 children in particularly difficult circumstances.

Moreover, there were 12 display booths of 15 units in the fields of inclusive education for disabled children, medical assistance for mentally ill people and children in special circumstances; consulting and connecting subjects to service providers; legal aid; and vocational training for disadvantaged people.
