In its efforts to respond to the program "Youth from People's Police Support Children in Difficult Circumstances to Pursue Their Academic Dreams", the Da Nang Police Department’s Youth Union Organization has launched the “Supporting students in Poverty to Continue Their Studies” program in a bid to help local poor students who have fairly good or good academic performance but are at risk of dropping out of school because of financial hardship.

The family of 14 year- old Nguyen Thi Kieu Vy, a resident of Hoa Tho Dong Ward, Cam Le District is living in poverty. Vy's mother is unable to work due to heart problems while her father suffers health problems after an accident at work. Therefore, Vy was at risk of dropping out of school due to her circumstances .

Since 2022, the Da Nang Police Department’s Youth Union Organization has provided support for Vy to help her continue her studies after knowing about her family’s difficult conditions.

In addition to offering monthly financial assistance, the organization has taken an initiative to set up a passion fruit garden in efforts to provide livelihoods support for Vy's family. Thanks to that, Vy did not drop out of school and continues her efforts to achieve academic success. Vy is among beneficiaries of the program in Hoa Vang District.

Over the past 3 years, Dang Van Phu, a resident of Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District has been sponsored by the municipal Police Department. Phu's family is living under difficult circumstances, and his mother abandoned him while he was a kid. His father, who works as a household electrical appliance repairman, has done his utmost to get through the hardship to support education for Phu and his older sister, as well as take good care of his sick and aging mother.

Sympathizing with the circumstances of Phu's family, the Organization is providing financial support worth VND 1 million per quarter for his family to help pay for educational and living expenses. Furthermore, finance assistance is also given to his family to help buy clothes, school books, and textbooks along with learning tools for him and his older sister when entering the new school year. The Organization’s practical support has encouraged Phu to excel in his studies despite economic hardships over recent years.

Nine year-old Le Duc Viet, a resident of Quang Chau Village, Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang District is another beneficiary of the program. Over the past year, he has received quarterly financial support valued at VND 1 million. In addition, material and cash gifts have been given to his family during public holidays and Lunar New Year to help his family take good care of him.

Initiated in 2019, the “Supporting students in Poverty to Continue Their Studies” program has targeted students in difficult circumstances in Cam Le and Hoa Vang districts . Since its launch in 2019, the program has seen active involvement of all member youth union organizations of the Da Nang Police, each is providing educational sponsorship for 2-3 students in difficult circumstances.

Apart from providing monthly financial assistance worth VND 300,000 for poor students, member organizations pay regular visits to them, and give them bicycles, tablets, school books, text books, and other learning tools in an attempt to give them strength to follow their academic aspirations to have a better future. Importance is attached to calling on organizations, businesses, and individuals to join hands with the program’s organizer to support poor students on a regular basis.

In the 2022-2023 school year, the program spent VND 127 million on helping poor pupils in the Dien Hong Primary School located in Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, plus Hoa Tien Primary Schools No. 1 and No. 2 located in Hoa Vang District. In addition, VND 39 million was used to donate 15 learning corners, 4 sets of computers, 3 bicycles, clothes, learning tools, and more for students from low-income families. Since its inception, the program has provided educational sponsorship for 33 students in need.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Ngoc An from the Da Nang Police Department highlighted the significance of the program in ensuring the effective implementation of the city’s social welfare policy, thereby supporting students from low-income families to continue their studies, as well as encouraging them to overcome difficulties to excel in their studies.

Da Nang Police officers has win the hearts of local people, and earned their trust through their effective implementation of the program.

“In the coming time, heed will be paid to calling on sister and affiliated units of the Da Nang Police Department’s Youth Union Organization to join hands with us to support poor students in the city," Lieutenant Colonel An added.

The Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee has awarded a certificate of merit to the Organization in recognition of its efforts for dropout prevention among students from low-income families.
