Grasping the needs and aspirations of poor households

In early March 2024, ward authorities in Thanh Khe and Hai Chau districts held dialogues with poor households.

Thac Gian Ward’s Fatherland Front Organization Chairman Nguyen Huu Hoang said that there are currently 59 poor households in the ward, of which, 38 are still able to work. Through dialogue with poor households, the ward authority identified their needs and expectations. Eight households are in need of livelihoods support, 2 need to get a business loan, 1 needs a new home, and the remaining 11 in need of home repairs.

"Based on the needs of each household, the Ward Authority will provide appropriate support for them in an attempt to help them lift themselves out of poverty," Mr. Hoang said.

To achieve the district’s goal of poverty reduction set for 2024, ward authorities across the district have already hold dialogue with poor households. In March, focus is on providing livelihoods support for those in need while facilitating poor households’ access to a business loan to help them stay out of poverty.

In a similar move, dialogues with poor households have been held across 13 wards in Hai Chau District. To effectively implement the district’s poverty reduction program in 2024, the district authority is focusing on accelerating the implementation of the city’s support policies for the poor while mobilizing resources for poor and near-poor households. Hai Chau District sets a target of reducing the number of poor households with working capacity by 244, and that of near-poor households by 90 according to the city’s poverty line. Accordingly, 20 poor households will be provided with home or home repair support while100 people from poor and near-poor households will receive job placement assistance, and all poor and near-poor households in the district will have access to the city’s social welfare programs and basis social services.

Meanwhile, Son Tra, Lien Chieu, Cam Le, Ngu Hanh Son and Hoa Vang districts are holding dialogues with poor households.

In particular, in 2024, Son Tra District strives to reduce the number of poor households with working capacity by 410 and that of near-poor households by 270. Special attention will be paid to offering free health insurance cards to all poor households while building new houses and repairing degraded houses for the disadvantaged families. Importance will be attached to providing vocational training for about 20 people and job placement assistance for 200 others from poor and near-poor households.

The National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Da Nang in 2024 aims to lift nearly 2,300 households with the ability to work out of poverty.
