In early December 2023, Mr. Tran Huu Xa and his wife along with their two young children who are living in Hoa Phong Commune, Hoa Vang District happily moved to a new house under the "Charity House" program funded by the Huong Lam Club for Charities and Protection of Children's Rights.

Mr. Xa's family lives in poverty. He and his wife have 2 children, of whom, the eldest is in third grade and the youngest suffered a blood disorder at birth. Mr. Xa's wife does not have a stable job and stays at home to take care of their young children. All his family’s expenses depend on his meager income from unskilled labor job. Due to their harsh circumstances, the young couple's dream of a small new house did not come true.

Knowing about Mr. Xa's family who is living under poor circumstances, in early October 2023, the club raised VND 60 million from philanthropists to help his family build a new house. After nearly 2 months of construction, the new house took shape with 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, and mezzanine, bringing joy and happiness to his family.

“My family is grateful to the Club and local authorities for very practical support, helping us have our dream house. This is a great source of support and encouragement for us to motivate us to overcome difficulties in life, escape poverty, stabilize our lives, and take good care of our children," Mr. Xa said emotionally.

Previously, the Club had also handed over a charity house to Mrs. Tran Thi Thanh The's family living in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District. Her family is living under poor circumstances, and one of her two children is suffering from cerebral palsy. Furthermore, Mrs. The was recently diagnosed with cancer, making her family’s life more difficult than it already is. Every day, she struggles with her fight against cancer while trying to take good care of her sick child. To share the difficulties with her family, the Club called for cash donations totaling VND 70 million from organizations and individuals to help her family build a new house to have a stable residence, and improve the family economy.

Mrs. Le Thi Tam, the Chairwoman of the Da Nang Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection said that in 2023, the association at all levels raised funds to support the construction of 7 new houses and repair 23 degraded ones for poor households with children at a total cost of over VND 1.15 billion. Moreover, importance was attached to providing livelihoods support totaling over VND 400 million for 52 poor households with children in efforts to help them escape poverty sustainably.

Meanwhile, in their efforts to empower vulnerable women in rural areas, the Da Nang Children Sponsor Fund under the municipal Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Hoa Vang District’s Women's Organization have recently given livelihoods support to local disadvantaged women.

Among the beneficiaries is Mrs. Pham Thi Dinh, a resident of Hoa Son Commune, Hoa Vang District as her family is living under poor conditions. In 2021, her husband died from a serious illness, left behind her and two young children. Since then, she has worked as a garment worker to raise her two children. To help Mrs. Dinh increase her income to support her family, the Fund donated a sewing machine to her to help her sew and repair clothes at home in her free time.

Similarly, Ms. Phan Thi Lai is a resident of Hoa Phuoc Commune. Her husband with heart failure forced her to quit her job to take care of him. Therefore, she received financial support worth VND 7 million from the Fund to open a fruit stall to help her earn money to support her children's education.

Mrs. Tran Thi Kim, the Chairwoman of Hoa Vang District’s Women Organization said that 11 poor families of the organization’s members with children have received livelihoods support totaling VND 79 million funded by the Assemblies of God in Australia World Relief (AOGWR). Each family was provided with livelihoods support worth VND 6-8 million.

“Poor families have been helped with livelihoods support as a means of tackling poverty. Included were donations of sewing machines and farm animals, along with financial assistance to start a small business. They have been provided with practical support to motivate them to get out of poverty," Mrs. Kim shared.
