Voluntary Steps
2024 marks the second year of implementing the resolutions of the Da Nang Congress of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the National Congress of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union under the theme "Youth volunteer for community life".
Accordingly, Youth Union organisations at all levels have effectively implemented voluntary and social welfare programmes; accompanied young members, officers, soldiers, youth, and children in ethnic minority, border and islands areas; and supported vulnerable children, the elderly, and community healthcare.
Recently, the "Border March" programme 2024, organised by the Da Nang Youth Union in coordination with the Quang Nam Provincial Youth Union, took place on March 1st in A Nong Commune, Tay Giang District, Quang Nam Province. The youth from two localities visited and raised the flag at border milestone No. 678 between Viet Nam and Laos, presented maps of Viet Nam to Border Posts, and organised voluntary activities.
The Spring Volunteer Campaign 2024 named "Spring Dream Bag" was organized almost simultaneously by the Youth Union organisation of the Marketing Department of the Da Nang University of Economics in Bhơ Hoong Village, Song Kon Commune, Dong Giang District, Quang Nam Province.
Among the 80 volunteers in the campaign, student Tran Le Buu Lap and his friends placed 10 solar streetlights to illuminate the village, organized cultural exchange nights, distributed gifts to locals, participated in gratitude ceremonies, and collaborated with Song Kon Primary School to raise awareness about the sovereignty of the seas and islands.
"These brief two days provided us with many experiences, making us appreciate the beauty and pride of youth, as we could reach remote and difficult areas to assist those in need. Everyone is happy to see the smiles of the Co Tu people in the highlands," said Lap.
Contributing to social welfare
Present at the People's Committee Hall of Hoa Lien Commune, Hoa Vang District on March 16th, Mr Tran Be, Head of the Cooperative Group for Mushroom Cultivation in Hien Phuoc Village, and other farmers were instructed by youth members on hazardous waste sorting, collection, and disposal in agricultural production, as well as on handling rice straw after harvesting for composting. They also received support in accessing online public services. These support sessions from the youth members helped local people here grasp the process and received advice on dealing with practical production issues.
These activities are within the framework of the 2024-2025 cooperation programme between the municipal Youth Union and the Party Committee of Hoa Lien Commune. Under the deal, the commune is supported in building new-style rural areas and completing the criteria for urbanisation.
Le Trung Quoc, a pupil from the Tran Quoc Tuan Junior High School in Hoa Phong Commune, Hoa Vang District, just received a gift from the Youth Union organisation in Hoa Phong Commune.
Understanding the difficult circumstances of Quoc's family, the unit promptly visited and supported the family with VND 1 million from the "Youth Foster" programme, along with a new set of studying desk and chair from the "Study Corner for Children" programme.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Sy, the Secretary of the Hoa Phong Commune’s Youth Union organisation, in 2023, the unit provided 35 study corners and supported 30 foster children with a total budget of nearly VND 80 million.
In Youth Month 2024, the Da Nang Youth Union set a target of supporting 1,000 children in difficult circumstances through coordinated efforts of Youth unions at all levels, thereby continuing the simultaneous implementation of the "Youth Foster" programme.
Additionally, another model called "We're always with Mom" is being implemented with the participation of organisations under the Da Nang Youth Union.
Within the framework of the programme, teams visited and provided healthcare services and lunch for the families of Heroic Vietnamese Mothers currently living in Da Nang.
Highlights in scientific research
At the final round of the Smart Campus competition for the Asia-Pacific region held on January 12th, with participation from 10 strong teams from universities at home and abroad, the championship belonged to the team from Da Nang University with the project "Applying LoRa to IoT system to ensure power quality".
The team leader, Nguyen Tuan Phong, shared that the project idea stemmed from an internship at the Chư Pưh Electricity Company, Gia Lai Province. At that time, operating power stations faced difficulties in ensuring power quality due to undetected physical damage states, making inspections harder and posing dangers to workers during maintenance.
Therefore, the team researched and developed the project to create the "Power Quality Monitoring Device" and successfully tested it at 1 out of 47 stations in Chu Puh. The team will continue researching to find development directions for the product, optimising its efficiency.
2023 marked the success of Da Nang’s Student Scientific Research Competition with 14 highly-rated research topics.
According to the Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Le Duc Vien, the outstanding highlight of the competition is the diverse research topics across various fields, from academic research to practical application.
As shared by the Deputy Secretary of the municipal Youth Union Le Cong Hung, the youth union work and youth movements over the past time have achieved comprehensive results on all fields. They have also ensured effectiveness and practicality; and demonstrated pioneering, serious, and creative spirit in implementing new directives of the term with many specific models and approaches.
