Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene, Workers' Month, launched in Da Nang

The Action Month for Occupational Safety and Hygiene themed “Strengthening labour safety and hygiene in the workplace and the supply chain”, and the Workers' Month 2024 “Worker solidarity - Resolution implementation", were officially launched in Da Nang on Sunday.

In attendance at the event were Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Council Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, and Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong stressed the need to organise specific activities such as training courses on occupational safety and hygiene, and safety skills for workers; review, identify and evaluate risks in production labour; and carry out self-inspection activities and safety measures in workshops, factories, teams, machines, and equipment with strict requirements on labor safety.

He also requested departments, localities, units, businesses and trade unions at all levels to strengthen information, propaganda and training on occupational safety and hygiene according to the provisions of the Law on Occupational Safety and Hygiene; promote the implementation of specific action programmes on improving working conditions, reducing stress and fatigue, and implementing welfare regimes for workers; organise labour classification according to working conditions; and measure and monitor the working environment, periodically examine occupational health, and examine and detect occupational diseases.

He underlined a must-do for relevant units and businesses to arrange people with sufficient expertise and capacity to work on occupational safety and hygiene, and strictly carry out inspection of machinery, equipment and supplies before being put into use.

Heed should be on increasing inspection of the implementation of regulations on occupational safety and hygiene in order to detect and strictly handle violations.

On the occasion, the Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs awarded Certificates of Merit to three groups in recognition of their outstanding achievements in occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

In addition, 9 collectives and 10 individuals received Certificates of Merit from Director of the Department of Labor Safety under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs for their outstanding results in occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

The Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour presented emulation flags to five collectives to honour their outstanding achievements in the good labor emulation movement and building strong trade union organisations in 2023.

Three collectives and five individuals were presented with Certificates of Merit from the Da Nang People’s Committee for their remarkable achievements in occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

Certificates of Merit from Chairman of the Council of Occupational Safety and Hygiene were given to seven collectives and two individuals who recorded outstanding achievements in occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

The Da Nang Confederation of Labour awarded 50 'Shelters of Trade Union', totalling VND1.63 billion, to needy workers.

At the same time, 73 gifts, each worth VND1 million, were given to workers suffering from labour accidents and occupational diseases. Meanwhile, 4 gifts, each worth VND3 million, were presented to relatives of trade union members who died from work accidents or occupational diseases.

Also on the same day, the 13th Sports Festival for Cadres, Civil Servants and Public Employees kicked off in the city, attracting 22 registered units with more than 800 athletes who are trade union members at agencies, units, businesses, and schools citywide.

The participants compete in five categories of badminton, table tennis, tug of war, chess, and men's and women's sack jumping relay.

The sports festival lasts until May 12, 2024.
