The "Clean from kitchen - Green from garden" model, initiated by the Women's Union of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang has had a significant impact. It not only helps families develop the habit of properly sorting and handling food waste but also reduces the amount of organic waste released into the environment. This initiative raises awareness among women and the community about creating a green, clean, and beautiful living environment.

To implement the model effectively, members are informed and encouraged through neighbourhood meetings, loudspeakers, radio broadcasts, and the electronic portal of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward. With this knowledge, each member sorts household waste at the source by recycling food waste, such as biodegradable scraps from cooking like vegetable peels, leaves to make compost for fertilising vegetables and ornamental plants. At the same time, they use available spaces such as rooftops, play areas, hallways, empty land to grow vegetables and plants, increasing urban greenery and reducing organic waste in the environment. This also alleviates the pressure of waste disposal and the risk of environmental pollution.

Ms. Le Thi Chuan, a member of the Women’s Union, shared that in the process of growing vegetables in household gardens, food safety standards are maintained by minimising the use of pesticides. Therefore, members often create their own organic fertilisers using kitchen waste like rice water, fish and meat washing water, fruit and vegetable peels, old vegetable stems, wilting leaves, and expired bananas, milk, and eggs. Since implementing the "Clean from kitchen - Green from garden" model, family members have become more conscientious about maintaining a clean environment in their community.

Evaluating the model, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao, Vice Chair of the Women's Union of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, stated that to achieve success, members must regularly check the technical aspects of the model, supervise, and address any issues that arise during implementation. Additionally, members are encouraged to maintain their homes and communal areas, ensuring no stagnant water or litter that could affect urban aesthetics and public health. Each participant also takes advantage of free time to grow clean vegetables, benefiting both family meals and environmental protection. In the future, the Women’s Union will promote and expand the "Clean from kitchen - Green from garden" model to more members in the ward.

Sharing his thoughts on the model, Mr. Vo Le Anh, Chairman of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward People's Committee, noted that over time, the model has attracted many women in the ward who actively participate, contributing to a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful environment and effectively implementing Plan No. 71/KH-UBND dated 11 March 2024 by Hai Chau District People’s Committee on waste sorting at the source in 2024.
