Chairman of the Nai Hien Dong Ward People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thong stated that in late July 2024, a plot of land at the intersection of Ly Nhat Quang, Phan Huy Thuc, and Trương Quoc Dụng streets was handed over to a contractor to begin the construction of a park and walkway.

The park is expected to be completed and handed over to the ward for management and use by August 2024. It will feature infrastructure for environmental education, sports facilities such as basketball and badminton courts, fitness equipment, benches, green trees, and lawns.

Once operational, it will serve the recreational needs of residents in Nai Hung 2 and Nai Hung 2B residential areas, and nearby ones within the ward.

Le Duc Loi, a resident living near the park, commented that the investment in green parks and walkways in the area will help meet the community’s needs for recreation and physical exercise, and enhance green space while improving the living environment. Additionally, it will address the issue of plots of land planned for parks that have remained undeveloped, contributing to environmental cleanliness.

According to the Son Tra District authorities, 13.49 hectares of land had been earmarked for the development of parks and walkways in residential areas across the district as of 2023. The implementation of the planning is largely consistent with the Urban Green Space Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period and ensures the maintenance of urban green spaces, adhering to the detailed zoning plans approved by the municipal People’s Committee.

Recently, the district authorities have been focusing on building parks and walkways.

Specifically, they have collaborated with the Green Viet Biodiversity Conservation Centre to sponsor green tree planting and have entrusted ward-level authorities to mobilise associations, organizations, and residents to care for the trees. This initiative aims to increase green coverage and raise public awareness while addressing the issue of undeveloped park land lots, thereby contributing to environmental cleanliness and landscape enhancement.

Since 2021, Green Viet has sponsored the planting of 13,662 trees (including shade trees and ornamental trees) at four parks and walkways in the district. Green Viet sponsored tree planting at the park and walkway on The Lu Street in 2022; and at the parks on Phan Huy Chu Street and on Chinh Huu-Nguyen Cong Tru-My Khe 7 streets in 2023.

According to Mr Huynh Van Hung, Vice Chairman of the Son Tra District People’s Committee, the district currently has 52 plots of land planned for parks and walkways, covering a total area of approximately 13.49 hectares. Of these, 38 parks and walkways covering 6.93 hectares have already been developed, while the remaining 14 parks and walkways covering 6.55 hectares are part of the district's investment projects for the 2024-2026 period. These parks and walkways in residential areas have created communal spaces, thereby enhancing the quality of life; at the same time, contributing to urban beautification and encouraging residents to engage in physical activity more frequently.
