Supporting disadvantaged children

In response to the peak day of the “Supporting Disadvantaged Children” campaign during the 2024 Summer Volunteer Youth Campaign, since early June 2024, Youth Union organisations at district-level have launched numerous activities to assist disadvantaged youth and children in their educational journey.

At the “A Festive Day to Welcome Summer 2024” recently organised by the Youth Union organisation of Vinh Trung Ward, Thanh Khe District, in coordination with the People's Committee of the ward, 155 gifts and 62 sets of textbooks and school supplies, totalling VND 54 million, have been given to pupils from poor, near-poor, and newly escaped from poverty households, helping their families reduce expenses for the new school year.

The Youth Union organisation in Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Minh Ward recently collaborated with the local Study Encouragement Association to reward and award scholarships to poor and studious students.

Accordingly, 19 students with outstanding achievements and 157 students overcoming difficulties in the 2023-2024 academic year received scholarships, books, and school supplies, with a total budget of over VND 100 million.

Ms Ho Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, Secretary of the Hoa Minh Ward-based Youth Union organisation, stated that with the motto of supporting and caring for the studies of disadvantaged youth and students, the organisation frequently provides scholarships to assist poor students, motivating them to strive in their studies and life.

To raise funds for these scholarships, youth unions and associations have organised various fundraising activities, mobilising resources from the community.

Recently, the Youth Union - Youth Federation of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, organised a “Car Wash Fundraiser - Support to School” event. Over the course of two weekends, youth union members washed dozens of motorbikes, raising over VND 6 million.

According to Mr. Le Cong Hung, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Youth Union, during the two phases of the 2024 Summer Volunteer Youth Campaign from May 26 to July 30, the city’s Youth Union chapters citywide have supported 3,485 disadvantaged children in various forms, contributing to social welfare for the youth and children in the city.

Accompanying students to school

Bui Ngoc Hanh, a ninth-grade pupil from Hoa Tho Dong Ward, Cam Le District, who comes from a poor household with particularly difficult circumstances, has been taken under the wing of the Youth Union organisation of the Anti-corruption, Economic Crime, Smuggling, and Environmental Crime Investigation Division under the Da Nang Department of Public Security as part of the “Accompanying Students to School” programme initiated by the Department.

To support her educational journey, in mid-July 2024, the Youth Union organisation visited, encouraged, and gifted her with a desktop computer, a set of ninth-grade textbooks, school supplies, and financial support for the second and third quarters of 2024, worth VND 12 million in total.

Similarly, the Youth Union organisation of the Domestic Security Division under the Da Nang Department of Public Security visited, encouraged, and provided financial support to underprivileged pupils across the city, giving them the motivation and confidence to continue their studies.

To further motivate disadvantaged pupils to keep pursuing their dreams, since the beginning of the year, the Youth Union organisation in Hoa Vang District has continued to mobilise resources to present “Study Corners for Pupils”, helping hundreds of disadvantaged students have neat and proper study spaces.

According to Ms Nguyen Thi Giang Thuy, Secretary of the Hoa Vang District Youth Union organisation, with the meaningful message of “Every Study Corner Donated is a Nurtured Dream”, the programme provides each disadvantaged student with a study corner set, including a desk, bookshelf, chair, and lamp, with a total cost of VND 1.4 million per set.

According to Ms Thuy, since 2022, the Youth Union organisation of the district has coordinated with units, organisations, businesses, and benefactors to donate 1,634 study corners, totalling nearly VND 2 billion. In the first six months of 2024 alone, 200 study corners were distributed, providing motivation and joy in studying for disadvantaged pupils. This initiative reflects the responsibility of the Youth Union and Youth Federation in promoting education and talent development, contributing to the effective implementation of the Prime Minister's project “Promoting Lifelong Learning in Families, Clans, and Residential Communities”.
