4-day wet spell forecast for mid-central region
The Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, on Sunday, issued a warning of heavy rain for central coastal localities.
Accordingly, the central Vietnamese provinces and cities from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai could experience widespread downpours from 4:00 pm on October 20 to 4:00 pm on October 22, with rainfall ranging between 80mm and 250mm
From October 22 to 24, the mid-central region will continue to brace for moderate to heavy rain in some places. In particular, the precipitation of 30-70mm is forecast for Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces, while the localities from Thua Thien-Hue to Quang Ngai may see much higher rainfall of 50-150mm.
People in mountainous, low-lying, riverside, and urban areas from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai should take precautionary measures against possible flash floods, landslides, and flooding.
To proactively respond to natural disasters caused by heavy rain, the Da Nang Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence issued Notice No. 25/TB-PCTT on October 20 requesting departments, sectors and localities to closely monitor natural disaster forecasts, warnings and heavy rain situations, as well as be ready to deploy natural disaster prevention and control plans.
Heed should be on rechecking residential areas in low-lying, riverside and streamside areas or areas at risk of landslides, flash floods, etc., especially those living along Tuy Loan and Cu De rivers.
At the same time, the Steering Committee directed management boards and investors of projects under construction to deploy plans to prevent flooding, and clear the water flow for residential areas due to unfinished construction projects.
The municipal Department of Construction shall preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of districts and towns to direct the implementation of plans to prevent and combat flooding and clear drainage ditches.
The Da Nang Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited, the city’s Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, and relevant units shall regularly and closely monitor the water level of reservoirs; check the safety of reservoirs and dams; and prepare forces, means, and equipment to promptly handle unexpected incidents.
