As a former agricultural engineer, Mr. Quang held the position of Head of Technical Department at the Department of Agriculture in Quang Nam - Da Nang (before its separation) and later at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Da Nang. He also spent over 10 years as a member of the city’s Science and Technology Council. Throughout his career, he has been invited to join numerous review committees for scientific research projects, both at the ministerial and city levels, contributing to their success.
Some of his notable achievements include delivering reports on environmental topics to the University of Science and Education- University of Da Nang, serving as a member of the national council that developed eco-friendly organic fertiliser production processes from agricultural by-products, and participating in policy development on climate change for Da Nang. He also worked on a citywide biodiversity project at Son Tra Peninsula and took part in efforts to address the issue of invasive species to protect local biodiversity.
Mr. Quang has been involved in many other key projects, including rapid reforestation planning along riverbanks, coastal resource conservation (in collaboration with the Institute of Economic and Social Research), and the Green Truong Son project in Quang Nam. His efforts extend to promoting sustainable farming practices on sloped land, reforestation with large timber trees, and diversifying crops to protect genetic resources.
In 2023 and early 2024, he collaborated with the Centre for Adaptive Capacity Building Research (CAB) to develop green energy transition projects. He also participated in the approval of over 20 initiatives, funded by a VND 1 billion grant, and organised annual international biodiversity conferences for four consecutive years.
Discussing his work, Mr. Quang shared, “In recent years, I, along with my colleagues, have actively developed technical processes, introducing scientific advancements into production to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. This helps protect the environment and preserve biodiversity. From the outset, I’ve been a part of the 'Da Nang - Environmental City' project (since 2010) and continued to contribute during its next phase (2021-2030). I have consistently fulfilled my responsibilities, receiving recognition from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment for my contributions to the field.”
Mr. Quang believes that the key to successful projects is not only detailed planning but also creativity and flexibility in incorporating new ideas into existing activities. “I always think about how to align research with real-world needs, aiming to address urgent issues and deliver tangible benefits to society,” he said.
Through his research, Mr. Quang has helped various organizations attract investment for community projects, reducing the reliance on state funding. His efforts, combined with those of other organizations and local authorities, have had a tangible impact on environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, raising awareness among residents and communities.
In recognition of his work, the Da Nang People's Committee awarded Mr. Quang the 2023 Da Nang Environmental Award for his contributions to biodiversity conservation. Even in retirement, he continues to travel across the country, participating in scientific research projects, providing consultancy, and offering expert reviews on environmental issues when needed.
“I hope to continue contributing to environmental research projects,” said Mr. Quang. “I have a wealth of information and years of experience that I want to put to good use. I am always ready to take part in activities that protect the environment for the benefit of the community.”
