With a dream of donning the green uniform, young Truong Dinh Son applied and successfully enrolled at the Border Guard Academy. After graduating with distinction in August 2019, he was appointed as Lieutenant and assigned to work at the Da Nang Border Guard. Through his various roles, his youthful energy and enthusiasm shone through. By June 2022, Captain Son was promoted to Assistant for Mass Mobilisation in the Political Office of the Da Nang Border Guard.

As the full-time Youth Union officer, he has had many opportunities to showcase his qualities as a dynamic youth leader. His practical experience and self-learning helped him suggest and implement effective initiatives for the youth, particularly in coordinating the annual "Youth Volunteer" campaign, which has achieved numerous successes and received commendations.

One standout contribution was during the 2019-2024 summer volunteer campaigns. Captain Son helped the Border Guard collaborate with local organisations to build four new houses for disadvantaged families in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District. Additionally, six homes in coastal wards were repaired with the help of youth volunteers and soldiers within over 600 working days.

Most recently, in the 2024 Summer Volunteer Campaign, Captain Son organised and led the "Green March" with 30 volunteers from the Youth Union organization of the municipal Border Guard. They engaged in clearing water hyacinths and dredging canals in Bau Tre, Hoa Nhon Commune, Hoa Vang District with a total area of 1,000m2. Previously, the Youth Union organization of the Border Guard supported the local cultural house with VND 3 million for new furniture.

In his role as the "Youth Leader", Captain Son also directed initiatives such as the "Green Sunday" and "Volunteer Saturday" campaigns, which were linked to the "Let’s Clean the Beach" programme at Non Nuoc, Son Tra, Tien Sa, and other beaches. These efforts saw the participation of over 2,120 youth volunteers across 58 events.

Every year, Captain Son and his team visit and donate gifts to underprivileged children in the “Step to school- Adopted Children of Border Guard Station” programme and children of soldiers stationed in border areas. They have so far provided 720 gifts worth over VND 200 million.

Speaking about Captain Son, Colonel Do Van Dong, Political Commissar of Da Nang’s Border Guard, said “Son has consistently demonstrated high responsibility in his duties, actively enhancing his professional knowledge to meet the demands of his work. As a Party member, he sets an example by leading every unit initiative, particularly in Youth Union activities and community volunteer campaigns.”

Through his passion and persistent efforts, Captain Truong Dinh Son has received Certificates of Merit from the Da Nang People's Committee for outstanding achievements in the 2022 and 2024 summer volunteer campaigns, as well as recognition from the Da Nang Youth Union for his contributions in 2022 and 2023.
