With the concept that when a flame goes out, each of us can continue to light up the bright light for many lives, Ms. Nguyen Ba Kim Khanh, 23, a teacher at the Ngo Thi Nham Junior High School, decided to register for posthumous organ donation when she turned 21.

She expressed that she had previously learned about organ donation through the media and understood that this was a noble act, not only demonstrating the spirit of mutual love but also having great humanistic value. Therefore, she decided to register for organ donation through the call from the Ban Mai Xanh Club and from the deep desire to save people.

“I registered for organ donation because I wanted to do something not so great, but could help patients who need organ donation to sustain their lives. With the spirit of loving others as if loving myself and if something unfortunate happens, I myself want to continue the life of anyone. My family fully supports this decision. Thanks to that, I have more motivation as well as a comfortable mentality to register for organ donation", Ms. Khanh confided.

It is known that Ms. Khanh registered to donate all tissues and organs in the body. Organ donation does not require a health check in advance, just providing information and choosing the registered organ, so it is quite easy.

Since registering to donate organs, she has chosen a scientific lifestyle, seriously building herself from the way she eats, drinks, rests and studies, in order to have a healthier body. Khanh’s actions have spread to many friends and relatives around her, and among them, some people have also decided to sow the sparkling seeds in the hope that more eyes will be bright and more hearts will be revived.

In a similar vein, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, a 4th year student majoring in Primary Education, University of Education, a member of the University of Da Nang-UD also registered to donate all her body parts at the moment she turned 19 years old. Because Thuy realized that organ donation can help people who are in desperate need of organ transplants.

More importantly, Thuy wanted to help others even when she passed away. Initially, Thuy's family objected, but after she explained, the family gave a nod to her decision.

“Previously, I looked for information about organ donation on social networks because my mother was a kidney failure patient but did not fully understand the process. Later, when I was in my first year of university, I learned more about organ donation steps through the appeal and encouragement from community clubs. I clearly think that if I can donate a part of my body after I die, it will bring more opportunities for patients to live as well as joy to their families," Thuy confided.

Recently, the spread of organ donation registration activities has been of interest to young people. Mr. Phan Phuc, the Vice Chairman of the Ban Mai Xanh Club, said that with the advantage of more than 1,000 volunteers in Da Nang in particular, and provinces and cities nationwide in general, since 2022, the club started to launch the registration for organ donation to save as many lives as possible.

Through that, many young people not only decided to donate organs but also registered to be volunteers to promote this noble act to the general public.

The organ donation movement among young people also reminds us of the story of Nguyen Hai An, 7, from the capital city of Ha Noi who decided to donate his corneas before passing away from cancer, giving light to two other people, touching millions of hearts, a rare act that has been hailed as heroic across the country. Le Hai Ninh, 44, from the northern province of Ninh Binh had a stroke while on duty and decided to donate his organs to save the lives of six other people.

It can be said that the above-mentioned stories convey meaningful messages, helping many people understand more about organ transplant activities because there is nothing happier than when our body leaves the earth but life still continues somewhere in many lives.

It is known that Viet Nam has established itself as the leading nation in Southeast Asia for organ transplants, performing over 1,000 procedures each year for the past two years. Since the beginning of 2024, Viet Nam has recorded 28 organ and tissue donation cases, doubling the number from 2023. This marks the highest ever record.

According to the Viet Nam Tissue and Organ Donation Advocacy Association, approximately 100,000 individuals have registered for posthumous organ donation, yet tens of thousands of patients remain on transplant waiting lists.
