After graduating from the Border Guard Academy, Phan Long Vu was assigned to Phu Loc Border Post. In 2022, he was appointed Head of Administration and Planning at Tien Sa Port Border Gate Station, under the Command of the Da Nang Border Gate.

Throughout his career, he has continuously strived to improve himself, learning from his peers and amassing experience to better serve his mission. Motivated by the challenges of managing large volumes of people and vehicles at Tien Sa Port, one of Central Viet Nam's most critical ports, he sought to develop a practical solution to enhance administrative procedures. His goal was to streamline operations, reduce manual errors, and expedite the boarding and disembarkation processes for locals, tourists, and workers visiting Viet Nam.

Lieutenant Phan Long Vu shared that after extended research, he successfully designed and programmed an application in 2023 that uses optical character recognition technology to scan and read shore passes. This application significantly improves the management of people and vehicles operating within the port.

The app offers diverse functionalities, including file import/export capabilities and LAN-based synchronisation for secure, offline operations, ensuring military confidentiality in border control tasks. It operates on lightweight software compatible with PCs and smartphones, featuring a user-friendly interface for seamless deployment. This innovation plays a crucial role in advancing administrative reforms and fostering digital transformation in the armed forces.

"Since deploying the application, I’ve personally overseen its use in managing over 50,000 entries and exits of crew members from international military and passenger ships docking at Tien Sa Port," Vu said.

In border diplomacy, Lieutenant Vu has been proactive in advising his unit's leadership on legal violations, drafting regulations, and handling cases involving foreign elements within their jurisdiction. His proficiency in foreign languages enables him to assist with interpreting during bilateral meetings, leaving a positive impression on international partners and ensuring successful mission completion.

As Secretary of the Youth Union, Vu has effectively implemented initiatives such as Promoting Tradition, Talents, and the Legacy of Uncle Ho's Soldiers, the Creative Youth Movement, and various volunteer projects like Supporting Students to School, and Accompanying Women in Border Regions. These efforts have included donating tens of millions of VND to underprivileged students, collecting hundreds of kilograms of plastic waste to clean up beaches, and organising blood drives contributing 36 units of blood.

These activities not only enhance the social responsibility and moral character of young officers but also contribute to local welfare and the mission of safeguarding national sovereignty.

In 2024, Lieutenant Phan Long Vu was appointed Assistant to the Organisation Division, Political Department, under the Da Nang Border Guard Command.

Currently, he is pursuing a research project on smart glasses capable of translating languages and displaying text without requiring internet connectivity, yielding promising initial results.

Lieutenant Phan Long Vu's achievements have inspired a strong scientific research culture among the youth in the Danang Border Guard Force.

For his outstanding contributions, he has received numerous commendations from the Da Nang Border Guard Command, the Border Guard High Command, the Son Tra District People's Committee, and the Da Nang Youth Union.
