In 2024, aside from mechanising waste collection in Hoa Xuan Ward (Cam Le district) and My An Ward (Ngu Hanh Son District), more than 20 new generation small garbage compactors have been put into use in sync with the operation of 2 modern garbage transfer stations in Son Tra District and Le Thanh Nghi Street.
The stable and durable operation of the garbage transfer stations and compactors operate not only creates favourable conditions for units and localities to eliminate many garbage collection points, and significantly reduce environmental pollution on the streets, but also meets the needs of garbage collection and transportation during peak times for public holidays, Tet Festival, events and festivals citywide. This brings a new image and helps to improve the quality of urban environmental sanitation in Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son and Cam Le districts.
To have such stable and durable operation, the Saigon Transportation Mechanical One Member Company Limited (SAMCO) regularly sends technical staff and workers to inspect, maintain, and service equipment and machinery.
Mr. Dang Que Hung, a representative of SAMCO said that because the waste contains many types of hard, heavy materials (stones, bricks, logs, oyster shells, clams, etc.) and the leachate has a high degree of corrosion and rust, the company has focused on selecting materials, equipment, and machine parts with high technical requirements and quality in the process of manufacturing and installing 2 transfer stations and new generation small garbage compactors. At the same time, the company has regularly checked and maintained services and improved technical processes to promote the effectiveness of solutions and technologies applied in practice.
Mr. Hoang Van Tung, representative of SEEN Engineering JSC in the Central region shared “Two waste transfer stations in Son Tra District and on Le Thanh Nghi Street, along with two leachate treatment stations at the Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex, and Phu Loc, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son wastewater treatment stations are applying advanced water, gas and sludge treatment technologies. Thanks to that, we operate the abovementioned stations stability and safely”.
In addition, the city has built eight automatic, continuous monitoring stations under the project on investing in automatic environmental monitoring stations in Da Nang (phase 1); and 2 automatic, continuous water environment monitoring stations in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has invested, installed and put into operation two air quality monitoring stations at the University of Da Nang and the University of Education and Science. Currently, industrial parks in the city and the Da Nang High-Tech Park all have centralised wastewater treatment systems with a treatment capacity of 33,700m3/day. Also, automatic, continuous wastewater monitoring stations have been already installed, and data has been connected to the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
The city will continue to invest in modern waste transfer stations, implementing solutions to reuse treated water at wastewater treatment plants, encouraging investment in best practice technology and environmentally friendly production and recycling projects, and applying advanced technology to treat waste.
Most recently, at the 2024 Vietnam Smart City Award Ceremony, Da Nang has been honoured with the title "Smart, green, clean environmental management city" for the third time (2021, 2023 and 2024).
Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quang Vinh pointed out that Da Nang received this award thanks to its investment and application of solutions and technology in environmental management and protection.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment will continue to work with relevant units to strengthen connections and cooperation with smart cities at home and abroad, typically Japan, South Korea and other countries with many investors in Da Nang so as to learn from experience, and apply models, solutions and technologies to contribute to the successful implementation of the project "Building Da Nang into Environmentally Friendly City" in the 2021-2030 period in response to the orientation of ecological urban areas.
