Helping patients feel excited

In addition to improving the quality of examination and treatment and innovating behavioral style, the Da Nang Department of Thoracic Surgery under the Da Nang General Hospital always focuses on upgrading landscapes to create a safe and clean environment for patients.

According to Dr. Than Trong Vu, the Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery, all staff join hands to decorate the department and rooms with beautiful paintings and photos of the homeland and country; arrange flower pots and ornamental plants along the corridors, patient rooms and offices.

In particular, in order to effectively implement a ‘green - clean - beautiful’ environment, the department has implemented good practice "5S" in Vietnamese (meaning: screening, arranging, cleanliness, care and readiness).

Initially, the department has built a green, clean campus, airy landscape, thereby creating a fresh, cool, relaxing space for patients and helping medical staff feel comfortable when working.

“We hope to contribute a small part to easing the pain of patients' illnesses, reducing the stress and fatigue of medical staff, thereby contributing to enhancing the quality of service and treatment of patients”, said Dr. Vu.

Over many years of development, the Da Nang Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poison has become one of the leading units of the Da Nang General Hospital, a pioneer in treating critical and complicated cases.

The department leader said, in addition to professional duties, the department has always paid special attention to building a ‘green - clean - beautiful’ medical environment, so that this is not only a place for treatment but also a place with a friendly and safe space for patients and their families.

The treatment space is airy, and hygiene criteria are strictly followed, creating the best conditions for the recovery physical and mental process of patients. Trees and leaves have the effect of healing the soul and spirit of patients, their families and medical staff those who need positive energy to continue the journey of lighting up many hopes.

The landscape environment, green space, hospital rooms, and offices of the Oncology Department the Da Nang General Hospital are arranged neatly and airy, creating a comfortable and friendly feeling for patients. To have a ‘green - clean – beautiful’ space is a process of coming up with ideas, joining hands, and contributing efforts made by the team of doctors and patients.

Ms. T.T.H, 64, under treatment at the Oncology Department said: “When I found out I had a serious illness, I was shocked and thought negatively. But coming here, receiving the dedicated care, understanding and sympathy of the doctors and nurses gave me more confidence to make efforts to overcome pain during treatment. This place has a cool, fresh campus, which makes my spirit excited, bringing a lot of positive energy”.

According to Dr. Le Duc Nhan, the Director of the Da Nang General Hospital, the hospital environment plays an important role, greatly affecting the psychology and recovery level of patients. Therefore, the departments and rooms of the hospital always try to maintain a ‘green - clean - beautiful’ environment and landscape so that patients feel comfortable, thereby helping treatment and recovery achieve the best results.

Improving the quality of medical services

Like specialized hospitals and Grade 1 hospitals, in recent years, district - level medical centers across the city have actively maintained environmental hygiene, improved medical waste management and built ‘green - clean - beautiful’ facilities. At the Hai Chau District Medical Centre, doctors and staff effectively cared for trees and flower gardens.

Open spaces and trees are arranged along corridors, walkways and treatment areas at the Hai Chau District Medical Centre, creating a friendly, green environment for patients and their families. Green trees not only improve air quality in hospital rooms, help absorb toxic substances but also reduce anxiety and stress of patients when hospitalised.

According to doctor Nguyen Trong Phuong, the Director of Hai Chau District Medical Centre, in addition to improving professional work, the unit identifies maintaining environmental hygiene, improving medical waste management and building a ‘green - clean - beautiful’ hospital as a long-term goal that needs to be implemented widely and sustainably to limit infection risk factors, creating the best conditions for examination and treatment for patients.

According to the leaders of the Da Nang Department of Health, after eight years of implementing the decision on approving the implementation of ‘green - clean - beautiful’ medical facilities and more than two years of implementing the criteria set for ‘green - clean - beautiful’ medical facilities according to the regulations of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, medical facilities in the city have achieved many remarkable results in protecting the environment, reducing hospital infections, creating a safe and clean environment, contributing to improving the quality of medical services and community health.
