Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that population is not just a statistical number, but a valuable resource of each country, and a foundation for building and developing the country. Population work is identified as an urgent and long-term strategic task.
In Da Nang, with many synchronous solutions with good models and initiatives, the city has initially made progress in improving the quality of the population, from reproductive health care, to prenatal and neonatal disease screening, and healthcare for the elderly. These efforts have contributed to increasing the average life expectancy of the people from 72 years old (in 2010) to 76.3 years old (in 2024), exceeding the national average.
In recent years, the Party Committee and the city government have concentrated on fostering socio-economic development and ensuring social security so that people can enjoy a healthy living environment and develop comprehensively. This sustainable development journey cannot be without the contribution of population work.
In the context of population aging and rapid changes in the global population structure, reasonable and quality population management and development are extremely important, which is considered to be a key factor not only for Da Nang to develop its economy but also to improve the quality of life for local people.
“With the city's development orientation, we need to continue to promote the advantages of the golden population structure, while caring for and supporting the elderly in the context of population aging. Adjusting the birth rate appropriately, taking care of reproductive health for young people and adolescents, and screening, diagnosing and treating prenatal and neonatal diseases need to be focused on to ensure high-quality human resources for the long-term development of the city," Vice Chairwoman Thi emphasised.
The National Action Month on Population in 2024 has "Improving population quality for a prosperous country and happy families" as its theme. The action month is implemented with many specific contents and activities, including organising rallies, and communication conferences on population and adolescent reproductive health care, along with hanging banners and slogans,.
After the ceremony, parade of vehicles in response to the Viet Nam Population Day took place in the city.
