Da Nang asked to proactively respond to northeast monsoon causing strong winds at sea and rain on mainland
Due to the influence of the enhanced cold snap, some places in north and mid- Central Viet Nam will experience showers and thunderstorms on December 7, according to National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
During thunderstorms, there will be a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localised heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
From the afternoon of December 7, sea areas from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai provinces will see strong northeast winds of level 6, with gusts of levels 7-8, rough seas, and waves of two-four meters high. Strong winds and large waves at sea are likely to affect the operations of ships and other activities.
To proactively respond to the northeast monsoon, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence of Da Nang requests the municipal Border Guard Command, the Coastal Information Station and related units and localities to promptly notify owners of vehicles and ships still operating at sea of information on the northeast monsoon so that they can proactively avoid it.
The city’s Border Guard Command closely maintains communication with ships and vehicles operating at sea and small boats operating near the shore to promptly organise rescue operations when necessary.
Departments, agencies, localities and units are directed to closely monitor the northeast monsoon bulletins to proactively handle possible situations.
