Enhanced cold front brings rain and chill to Central Viet Nam
According to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, on December 27 and 28, an intensified cold front brings rain, moderate rain, and some heavy rain to the provinces and cities in Central Viet Nam. The weather will remain cold, with the lowest temperatures ranging from 15-18°C in Quang Binh to Thua Thien Hue, and 18-20°C in Da Nang to Quang Ngai.
Northeasterly winds blow inland at levels 2-3, with coastal areas experiencing levels 3-4 and gusts reaching level 5.
There is a risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying, urban areas across the provinces and cities from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai.
In the Hoang Sa Archipelago, strong winds are expected at level 7 with gusts of levels 8-9, causing rough seas and waves reaching heights of 3-5 metres. Coastal waters from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai will see northeasterly winds at level 6, occasionally level 7, with gusts reaching level 8, causing rough seas and waves 2-4.5 metres high.
The Da Nang Municipal Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, and Civil Defense has issued documents requesting agencies, departments, localities, and units to closely monitor forecasts and disaster warnings, rainfall levels, and to be prepared to implement disaster prevention and response plans.
District-level People's Committees are urged to continue reviewing and preparing for the evacuation of residents from areas at risk of severe flooding, flash floods, and landslides, as well as to devise appropriate plans for the production and protection of winter-spring crops.
The municipal Department of Construction, in collaboration with related units, will oversee drainage clearance and implement measures to prevent flooding. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment will coordinate with local authorities and relevant units to manage efforts to prevent landslides in the city.
The Da Nang Border Guard Command, district-level coastal authorities, the Da Nang Coastal Information Station, and related units have been tasked with promptly informing vessel and boat owners operating at sea about the intensified cold front to ensure safety. They are also responsible for proactively managing offshore fishing activities.
