Environmental enterprises under Da Nang Urban Environment JSC actively collaborate with district-level offices of Natural Resources and Environment and local authorities to enhance the effectiveness and quality of sanitation services. Efforts focus on ensuring clean streets, public spaces, and residential areas while improving household waste collection. Districts also propose new regulations to bolster these initiatives further.

Ahead of the 2024 rainy season, the opening of the road and bridge linking DT.601 and ADB 5 to Loc My Village facilitated more consistent waste collection in Hoa Vang’s most remote areas. The presence of garbage trucks-common in urban areas-became a weekly reality for Loc My villagers, thanks to improved infrastructure.

According to Mr Nguyen Duc Thanh, Director of Hoa Vang Environmental Enterprise, the enterprise has operated a collection route from DT.601 through several villages, delivering waste to the Khanh Son landfill for disposal. Although collection remains infrequent, local authorities and residents actively support the efforts, including waste segregation at home and regular clean-up drives to maintain a tidy environment.

Hoa Vang District is developing a modern waste transfer station to align its sanitation standards with urban benchmarks. Plans include introducing mechanised waste collection across residential areas. Recently, the district has distributed 30 garbage carts to replace outdated vehicles and support self-managed waste collection teams. With 112 teams and 180 workers, the district collects approximately 80-85 tonnes of waste daily across 113 villages. Collection frequency varies once weekly in remote areas like Hoa Bac and up to thrice weekly in densely populated zones such as Hoa Chau.

Looking ahead, Da Nang needs policies that encourage technological innovation in waste management and provide guidance on waste packaging, collection fees, and procedures. Vice Chairman of Hai Chau District People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duy suggested implementing a pay-as-you-throw model to incentivise waste segregation and reduce landfill pressures.

Socialising environmental protection efforts and setting clear regulatory frameworks for waste management are crucial steps. Thanh Khe District has urged the city to establish maximum fees for collection services and subsidise hazardous waste handling to encourage private investment in modernising waste management practices.
