Over VND 3.27 billion goes to support orphans and the disabled

The 11th edition of the "Pink Hearts" programme in 2024 and the municipal-level singing contest for people with disabilities were broadcast live on Saturday.

Held by the Da Nang Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, the events aimed to mark the World Day of People with Disabilities (December 3).

In his opening speech at the events, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Chairman of the municipal Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, said that the "Pink Hearts" programme aimed to honour and express gratitude to kind hearts that have greatly contributed to social activities, as well as call for support for the fund to implement more humanitarian and social programmes in the city.

At the same time, it was an opportunity to honour the examples of people with disabilities and orphans who have overcome their circumstances to live worthy of the trust and love of society.

In 2024, the Association plans to carry out many rich, widespread and effective humanitarian and charity programmes. Included will be donating water purifiers to 10 schools and residential areas in Da Nang, and 5 mountainous districts of Quang Nam Province and 2 communes of Dien Bien Province; supporting livelihoods, and providing relief for needy people; offering training courses on Japanese languages to help Vietnamese people go to Japan to work; and helping poor and disabled pupils go to school, etc.

The total cost of implementing the activities is expected to be more than VND 6.5 billion with 4,578 people with disabilities and orphans benefiting.

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans Nguyen Trong Dam acknowledged and highly appreciated the creative way of the municipal-level Association in mobilising funds from generous donors.

The noble acts of benefactors, sponsors, organisations and individuals at home and abroad have helped the disabled, orphans and people in difficult circumstances overcome adversity and build a better life.

During the programme, a number of performances by the disabled and orphans took place. As a result, 4 performances won the A prize and 5 othes won the B prize.

On the occasion, the Da NAng Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans raised more than VND 3.27 billion from dozens of benefactors for its humanitarian and social programmes. The Association awarded 11 disabled and orphans who had the spirit of overcoming difficulties in life and contributed to the work of protecting the disabled.
