On 28 December, the People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province announced a proposal to invest VND 2,545 billion in upgrading and expanding National Highway 14B. The People’s Committee of Quang Nam has recently submitted a formal proposal to the Ministry of Transport, outlining plans to upgrade and expand the section of National Highway 14B passing through Quang Nam Province.

National Highway 14B, also known as the eastern branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, serves as a key East-West corridor in the northern region of Quang Nam Province. It forms part of the ASEAN highway network, beginning at Tien Sa Port (Da Nang) and extending to the Nam Giang International Border Gate - Dak Ta Ooc, connecting to Laos.

The highway intersects with National Highway 1 in Hoa Cam, the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway, and National Highway 14G in Tuy Loan, Da Nang, as well as the Ho Chi Minh Highway and the Truong Son Dong Road in Thanh My, Quang Nam.

This route plays a vital role in the transport of goods in transit from Southern Laos and Northeastern Thailand to Tien Sa Port (Da Nang), Tam Hiep Port (Quang Nam), and Chan May Port (Thua Thien Hue).

National Highway 14B spans a total length of 74 kilometres, starting at Tien Sa Port in Da Nang and ending at Thanh My in Nam Giang District, Quang Nam Province.

The section of National Highway 14B passing through Da Nang, from Km0 to Km32+126, and the section through Quang Nam Province, from Km32+126 to Km74 (from Dai Hiep Commune, Dai Loc District, to Thanh My Town, Nam Giang District), currently has the following conditions.

The first section, from Km0 to Km24+633 (Tien Sa Port to Tuy Loan), is currently operating with six lanes.

The second section, from Km24+633 to Km32+126 (Tuy Loan to the boundary with Dai Hiep Commune, Dai Loc District), is currently operating with two lanes. At present, the Ministry of Transport and Da Nang are collaborating on a project to expand this section to six lanes.

The third section, located within Quang Nam Province, stretches from Km32+126 to Km74 (from Dai Hiep Commune, Dai Loc District, to Thanh My Town, Nam Giang District). This section is 41.9 kilometres long and currently has only two lanes with a 9-metre-wide roadbed.

Traffic volumes along National Highway 14B have been rapidly increasing, but the section within Quang Nam Province has yet to undergo necessary upgrades and expansions. The People’s Committee of Quang Nam has therefore proposed an investment plan for the 41.9-kilometre section at an estimated cost of VND 2,545 billion, comprising VND 1,290 billion for the main route and VND 1,255 billion for auxiliary roads.
