In My Tan 1 residential area, Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District, waste classification at source is promoted thanks to the joint efforts made by Party Committee, Front Committee, associations, mass organisations, and residential groups in the regular collection of recyclable waste every Sunday morning.

Accordingly, people's awareness of waste classification at source and environmental protection has gradually been raised. The method of collecting recyclable waste after waste classification is more diverse, and the network of recyclable waste collection is expanded.

In wards and residential areas, statistics on the volume of recyclable waste, the amount of money collected from selling recyclable waste to serve social security and other activities are increasing.

Working together with the Party Committee, the Fatherland Front, associations, and organisations in residential areas and residential groups, the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC goes to each collection point to purchase recyclable waste at prices equal to or higher than market prices.

Notably, the company has deployed software and QR applications on smartphones to receive information on ordering recyclable waste collection from residential areas, thereby helping to conveniently build plans, routes and mobilise the appropriate number of workers and types of vehicles to collect recyclable waste at the agreed time and location.

It is known that QR - scrap collection software for gifts is an information technology application designed to encourage and manage the process of collecting personal scrap in order to enhance environmental protection and recycling actions.

Users can use the app to record information about the amount of scrap collected, including type and volume. When downloading and using the app, the system will automatically convert scrap information into points or other incentives, such as discount codes, household products or services. Users can track their accumulated points and choose gifts from the online store integrated in the app.

Mr. Chu Van Khiem, Head of the War Veterans’ Association of My Tan 1 residential are in Phuoc My Ward, said “Every Sunday morning, the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC sends trucks and workers to our residential area to collect recyclable waste. We use the money collected from the sales to organise social welfare activities. We are also trained to use the QR application on smartphones in waste management”.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khoa, Head of Planning and Investment Department of the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC, the company collects a monthly average of about 18-20 tonnes of recyclable waste per month, including about 10-12 tonnes of various types of paper, 2.5-3 tonnes of plastic, 2-2.5 tonnes of aluminum cans, and 1.5-2.5 tonnes of metal.

In general, the volume of recyclable waste collected, and the number of points and residential areas registering for appointments and the frequency of collection are on the rise.

Up to now, the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC has coordinated with the Youth Union organisation of Son Tra District to guide youth union members and young people to install QR app on smartphones and tablets to form a network to collect recycled waste after sorting, thereby boosting waste sorting at source in residential areas and schools as well as having a basis for the replication of the initiative in the city.

On the other hand, with this app, the company can easily receive information and images from residential areas and units reflecting on the environmental sanitation situation to handle it more effectively and promptly than before.
