Maintaining security and order at seaports
As the year-end approaches and preparations for the Lunar New Year (Tet) begin, international trade, diplomatic activities, and cultural exchanges are bustling at seaports. To ensure absolute security and order for visiting delegations, international tourists, and businesses, the Da Nang Port Border Guard has been actively managing, patrolling, and inspecting immigration procedures while coordinating efforts to maintain political security, public order, and social safety in seaport areas.

The Da Nang Port Border Guard is tasked with safeguarding sovereignty and security at border gates while maintaining public order and safety in the Da Nang port area. In fulfilling their political duties assigned by the Party, State, and the armed forces, the Da Nang Port Border Guard consistently performs well in its three core missions: national defence, security, and diplomacy.
Major Le Thanh Hien, Commander of the Da Nang Port Border Guard, stated that in 2024, the Party Committee and Command Board of the unit strictly adhered to resolutions and directives from higher authorities. They appropriately applied the Party's policies and the State's laws to the unit's conditions and tasks.
Simultaneously, they advised the Party Committee, the Command of the Da Nang Border Guard, and local authorities on leadership and management, successfully completing work plans and targets. They firmly upheld sovereignty, security, and order in the port border area and the maritime border zone while effectively combating crime, maintaining order and security in the port area. Over the past year, this included apprehending and handling numerous cases of legal violations, such as illegal drug trade, possession, and use, theft, and breaches of security and safety regulations. Notably, nine cases involving nine individuals were prosecuted for drug-related offenses.
In addition, the unit has continuously improved the quality and efficiency of immigration management to meet sovereignty, security, and diplomatic requirements. Over the past year, the Da Nang Port Border Guard processed immigration, transit, and export documentation for 2,255 vessels with 84,534 crew members and 69,600 passengers, along with millions of tonnes of cargo. They also registered 3,543 domestic vessel movements involving 40,838 crew members and over 5 million tonnes of goods.
According to Major Le Thanh Hien, for military vessels arriving at Da Nang Port, the unit develops and implements protection plans, ensuring the vessels' activities and those of their crews proceed smoothly in accordance with agreed schedules. They handle administrative procedures promptly and in compliance with Vietnamese law and international standards.
While conducting border guard operations, officers and soldiers performing procedures, escort, and reconnaissance duties integrate their expertise with border diplomacy propaganda. Through such efforts, foreign crew members, passengers, and visitors to Da Nang gain a better understanding of the Party's and State's foreign policies while also promoting Viet Nam's cultural and human image.
Diplomatic propaganda is carried out at various stages, including immigration procedures, escorting, and supervision. It combines direct communication with coordination with other entities, such as port authorities, customs, shipping agents, and tourism companies. This ensures that foreign crews are aware of and comply with border gate regulations, creating a foundation for orderly and secure operations.
