To add green to the city, a group of young people, called ‘Da Nang Xanh’, usually gather together to clean up trash and water sources, as well as spread the message "A livable city, say no to trash", thereby contributing to preserving and raising public awareness of environmental protection.

Recalling the day of picking up trash in the rain not long ago, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Head of the Da Nang Xanh group, said that in order to clean up the water source at the Man Quang Bridge and Da Nang Bay, both in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, the group coordinated with the Farics Vorc Club and the FPT Kindness Krew under the FPT Da Nang Senior High School to organise the activity "Regenerating water sources", which is part of the "Blue sea without trash" project.

Spending a day cleaning up trash in the rain, the group collected nearly 60 large bags of trash, then contacted the Son Tra District Environmental Enterprise to collect the trash in the right place.

Last weekend, the group planned to clean up trash along a section of Tran Hung Dao Street from intersections with the Dragon Bridge and Le Van Duyet Street to the foot of Thuan Phuoc Bridge.

According to Mr. Cuong, these places attract a lot of domestic and foreign tourists to visit, check-in, and take photos. In addition, the group regularly donates free meals to lottery ticket sellers, cyclo drivers, and people in difficult circumstances citywide.

"In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2025, it is predicted that there will be a large amount of trash, so the group has prepared a plan to call for volunteers to clean up roads along the Han River. The group hopes to be an extended arm of environmental sanitation workers to beautify the city with green colour", said Mr. Cuong.

The Da Nang Xanh group was established more than 2 years ago with 65 volunteers of various ages. The group's scope of activities is quite wide, stretching from Son Tra to Cam Le districts.

On holidays, Tet Festival or major programmes and events in the city, the group will increase the number of members and organise garbage collection before, during and after the events to ensure the landscape.

"The group operates freely with the motto of connecting and propagating the message of environmental protection to the people as well as promoting practical values, and ensuring safe, serious and effective cleaning. In the coming time, the group will try to spend more time together to protect the environment and hopes to become a prestigious, experienced force and cooperate with local authorities, ensuring all activities are managed and legal", Mr. Cuong wishes.

Student Tran Thi Thu Phuong from the Da Nang University of Architecture, a member of the group, happily said "Cleaning up trash is sometimes quite tiring, but when looking back at beautiful and clean streets, riverbanks and beaches, my friends and I are very happy and proud because we can contribute a part of our youth to protect the environment".

To spread the message of environmental protection, during the trash cleaning campaigns, members of the Da Nang Xanh group often save pictures, videos and post them on social networks Facebook and TikTok, which have more than 1,000 followers. During that journey, the positive feedback from the community is the motivation for the group to continue the journey to bring a cleaner environment.
