Taking advantage of favourable weather, the Da Nang Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Traffic and Agricultural Works has directed contractors to accelerate the progress of the project on building a wastewater collection system in Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District.
The project has a total investment of VND 420 billion, of which the construction package has a contract value of VND 358.4 billion. It is implemented by the Dacinco Construction Investment Company Limited, the Construction JSC No. 5, the Ha Noi Water Works Construction JSC, and the Nhat Huy Construction and Trading Company Limited within 970 days (from August 2024 to April 2027).
However, due to the urgent nature of the project to prevent and minimize wastewater overflow into the Han River, the Management Board is directing contractors to complete the project within 850 days (by the end of 2026).
As recorded by our reporters, contractors are mobilising human resources and construction equipment to work at 31 self-flowing pipeline sections (4 sections have been completed); 3 pressure pipeline sections and 4 pumping stations.
However, contractors are facing difficulties and obstacles in some sections and locations due to weak ground, technical infrastructure that needs to be handled, and delays in site clearance. The total construction value has reached more than VND 87 billion (more than 24% of the total contract value).
Contractors are taking advantage of favourable weather conditions to construct items with the expected completion time of the installation of wastewater collection pipes in June 2025 to treat and restore many road sections and sidewalks before the rainy season.
"We are coordinating with relevant units to handle difficulties and obstacles and urge contractors to boost the construction progress", said Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Traffic and Agricultural Works Nguyen Minh Huy.
In 2025, the Da Nang People's Committee will allocate VND 110 billion to pay for the construction and installation costs of the project, and at the same time, pour VND 12 billion into the installation of wastewater collection pipelines along a section of Tran Hung Dao extended street (Chuong Duong Street) from the Tien Son Bridge to Ngu Hanh Son Wastewater Treatment Plant in 2025.
In addition, VND 20 billion will be used to pay for the construction volume to complete and put into operation a separate wastewater collection system and sewer lines to transfer rainwater to the Han River in the basin from Ho Xuan Huong Street to the border of Quang Nam Province (Ngu Hanh Son District), in order to minimize the situation of wastewater overflowing into the Han River and the beaches of Khue My, Son Thuy, Non Nuoc and Tan Tra.
The municipal People's Committee also allocates funds to carry out some projects on minimising the situation of wastewater overflowing into the Han River. The project includes a wastewater collection system along a section of Bach Dang Street from Nhu Nguyet Street to Binh Minh 6 Street; a wastewater collection system along Tran Hung Dao Street; upgrading the wastewater collection system along a section of Tran Hung Dao Street from Tran Thi Ly Bridge to the Son Tra Wastewater Treatment Plant; renovating and upgrading the wastewater collection system along a section of Chuong Duong Street from Tran Thi Ly Bridge to Tien Son Bridge; a wastewater collection pipeline along Tien Son - Tuy Loan Riverbank from Do Bridge to National Highway 14B; and dredging mud from Do Xu Lake to reduce polluted water flowing into the Han River.
According to Director of the Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company Ha Van Thanh, in the immediate future, to minimize the situation of wastewater overflowing into the Han River, especially at peak times, the company regularly inspects and proactively takes a number of measures to limit wastewater overflow as well as minimize environmental pollution.
In particular, the company builds temporary sand dams at the discharge gates to increase the temporary storage capacity of wastewater at combined sewer overflows (CSOs); sprays deodorants to minimize odors at the discharge gates; and regulating wastewater and increase collection to minimize wastewater overflowing into discharge gates.
