Groundbreaking ceremony for housing repairs for poor households in Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District. |
On March 12 and 13, officers and soldiers from the Da Nang Port Border Gate Command, in coordination with the Steering Committee for the Eradication of Temporary and Dilapidated Housing in Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District, organised a groundbreaking ceremony to repair homes for Ms Le Thi Hong and Ms Tong Thi Ngoc Huong in the ward.
Attending the ceremony at her own home, Ms Le Thi Hong was deeply moved, sharing that her house had been built a long time ago and had significantly deteriorated. During storms and heavy rains, water would seep through the roof and walls, causing numerous difficulties in daily life. She expressed her gratitude for the local government's concern and the enthusiastic support of the Border Guard forces, saying she now felt reassured and no longer had to worry about her living conditions.
The renovation and repair work on both houses is expected to take approximately 10 working days, focusing on key areas such as roof repairs, waterproofing, and rebuilding the mezzanine.
As one of the families facing financial hardship, Ms Tong Thi Ngoc Huong courageously applied for assistance from the housing programme. However, completely rebuilding her long-deteriorated home was challenging due to her limited savings.
Understanding her struggles, the officers and soldiers of the Da Nang Port Border Guard provided labour assistance, while the local authorities contributed VND 30 million. Additionally, she received VND 15 million in cash to purchase essential household items.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Van Duc Truong, Political Commissar of the Da Nang Port Border Guard Command, the Party Committee and the Command of the unit had been working closely with local authorities in coastal border areas to identify households in need. They developed detailed coordination plans with various agencies to provide labour support and mobilise additional funding from benefactors. The aim is to help residents in border areas improve their living conditions and boost economic development.
Lieutenant Colonel Van Duc Truong also shared that, in the coming period, the Da Nang Port Border Guard Command will continue implementing the model "Mass organisations and unions mobilise support; organisations and individuals provide financial assistance; and Border Guard forces contribute labour to build and repair houses for impoverished and policy-beneficiary families". This initiative aims to strengthen the bond between the military and civilians, fostering unity in safeguarding national border security.
