Taking advantage of her spare time, Tran Thi Kieu, a second year student at the Medical Technology and Pharmacy - the University of Da Nang invited her friends to join the volunteer activity "Clean Up Son Tra - For a green Son Tra" with the desire to contribute a little effort to clean up the Son Tra Peninsular and protect the environment.

Kieu was among the 300 volunteers representing young people who love the environment from schools, clubs, associations, groups, and companies in the city to participate in the programme.

In addition to clean-up operation, there were many exciting activities such as a photo exhibition themed "Son Tra - Green Destination", a workshop “Red-shanked douc langur - The pride of Da Nang”, planting trees in the Ban Co (Chess Board) Peak, and walking to collect trash along roads leading to the Son Tra Peninsula.

The collected trash was then sorted into plastic waste and other types of waste. Volunteers used the collected trash to exchange for trees from the organisers.

First held in 2011, the “Clean Up Son Tra - For a green Son Tra” programme is maintained every year. It always attracts a large number of volunteers to participate each year.

The programme aims to spread the message of green living; raise public awareness of environmental protection; and mobilize people and tourists to participate in biodiversity conservation movements and protect wildlife in Son Tra Peninsula. It also contributes to building and promoting the image of green tourism in Son Tra with the message "Son Tra Peninsula - Green Destination".
