Since its operation in October 2024, a vegetarian banh mi shop on Tran Tong Street, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang has become a "special" stop for many people.

The shop offers zero-VND "hanging" banh mi to needy people, which can be seen as a warm support for low-income workers and those living in difficult circumstances.

Ms. Thao's "hanging" banh mi idea originated from her loyal customer who regularly does charity work. Initially, the customer asked Ms. Thao to prepare 10 bread each day for those in need.

Instead of distributing free banh mi by herself, the way helps people proactively come and get banh mi without hesitation or constraint. Being familiar with charity activities, Ms. Thao did not hesitate to agree with this suggestion.

From the initial 10 banh mi, the figure now increases to more than 300. Ms. Thao smiled and said “The number of free loaves of banh mi has been increasing day by day. It is just a simple meal, but when I see everyone enjoying the food, I am very happy. Every day, if you want to eat, just come by, whoever comes will have a share, as long as there is a need”.

Mrs. Vo Thi Thu Huong, 60, said “Banh mi is delicious and stuffed with fillings! When you stop by the shop, just say “give me a hanging banh mi” and you will get it” Mrs. Huong said.

“At first, many people were hesitant and didn’t know, so they were reluctant to receive free loaves of banh mi. But gradually, the shop is well-known by many people” Ms. Thao shared.
