Spreading national pride through 'made in Viet Nam' products
Vietnamese youth express their patriotism in creative and unique ways. One of them is the trend of starting a business selling accessories bearing the country's symbol. Items such as hairpins, keychains, cute stickers and embroidered shirts are designed with traditional features, thereby breathing life into Vietnamese culture and spreading national pride.

Browsing social networking sites, it is not difficult to come across seemingly familiar products such as clothes or accessories. However, the special thing is that they are all transformed and created into items with strong Vietnamese imprints such as key chains in the shape of the national flag, hairpins in the shape of cranes or lotus flowers, decorative stickers carrying such meaningful and proud words such as “Independence - Freedom – Happiness”, “Vietnamese Patriots”, “Red Blood, Yellow Skin”...
In Da Nang, the online store “Dee Embroidery Shop” has the best-selling product being a T-shirt embroidered with the red flag with a yellow star and the words “Independence - Freedom – Happiness”, “Vietnamese People".
This is a creative idea in the startup project developed by Ms. Do Linh Dieu, 25, Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang. Dieu said that after a visit to the Hoa Lo prison relic in the capital city of Ha Noi, it became a strong source of inspiration that urged her to create a product with a strong imprint of her homeland and country.
She targets customers who are far from home, wishing to have a souvenir to bring around the world with the pride of being a Vietnamese citizen.
“It is not simply a business project, but also the passion of a patriot. It is the sincerity and quality of the products that help the shop receive the attention and support of young people across Viet Nam. Customers come not only because of the good products, but also because they feel the patriotism in each design,” said Ms. Dieu.
Nowadays, social networks have become an ideal “playground” for young people to freely create and connect with one another. Thanks to that, fashion products, accessories with a strong Vietnamese imprints, and communication campaigns spreading patriotism have all received strong support from the community. In particular, when accompanied by artists and influential KOLs (Key opinion leaders), the influence of these products is even greater.
Typically, in mid-2024, the Dee Embroidery Shop received support from rapper HIEUTHUHAI. He wore a shirt embroidered with the Vietnamese flag and the slogan “Independence - Freedom – Happiness” in the reality TV show "2 Days 1 Night", creating a positive media effect.
When it comes to the plan to develop this business model, Ms. Dieu said that the shop is focusing on perfecting the available designs in the most beautiful way for delivery to customers. In the future, when all stages are better managed and operated, shirts embroidered with the national flag produced by the Dee Embroidery Shop will appear at tourist attractions so that customers can easily find and buy them during their Viet Nam trips.
As a customer who supports ‘made in Viet Nam’ design products, Ms. Hoang Cao Ha Truc, 22, Vinh Trung Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang said: “When holding these creative products in my hand, I feel like I am connected to my homeland, to the good traditional values of the nation. That feeling is warm, familiar and full of pride. I think these are items that represent the unique culture of Viet Nam, and are meaningful gifts for Vietnamese people and international friends”.
According to Ms. Truc, each citizen, each generation will express their love for their homeland and country in their own distinctive ways. That love is not only expressed through great actions but also spreads through small, familiar yet meaningful things. “I hope that the creativity of young people will grow more and more, thereby contributing to enhancing the value of Vietnamese culture in the eyes of international friends.”, said Ms. Truc.
