When coming to Hoa Hai Village and asking about Mrs. Hue's free class, everyone knows and is grateful to the woman who teaches not only literacy but also life skills and adolescent psychology to poor pupils.
Mrs. Hue shared that during her work at the school, she offered free home tutoring service to 1-2 pupils. After retirement, she continues maintaining free teaching because she realises that children in the village are quite studious but their difficult circumstances do not allow them to review and supplement their knowledge. Therefore, she has opened a charity class for more than 10 years.
"Most of the children in the village live in difficult circumstances as their parents are mainly workers or hired acacia growers. They are very diligent and try to come to class regularly and do their homework” she added.
According to Mrs. Hue, her free class only had 3-4 pupils initially. Thanks to her dedicated and serious teaching, the pupils she taught made progress in both their scores and their learning awareness, so their parents and other pupils in the village got to know her more. Up to now, the class has had about 10 - 15 pupils from grades 6 - 9 with 4 sessions/week at the village cultural house. She teaches Math and sometimes Physics and Chemistry upon the pupil request.
Nguyen Kim Tien, a 8th grader at the Ong Ich Duong Junior High School, said that she has been in Mrs. Hue's class since she was a 6th grader. After 2 years of studying, she learned Math better, especially knowledge about geometry. Tien said she lost the basics of geometry, which made her confused and had difficulty when approaching. However, she is now confident to solve difficult geometry problems. Above all, she is grateful to teacher Hue because of her great devotion and love for poor pupils.
As for Huynh Bao An, a pupil of grade 8 at the Ong Ich Duong Junior High School, in addition to Math, An is explained thoroughly and carefully by Mrs. Hue about Chemistry and Physics. Sometimes, she also buys notebooks or pens for An and other pupils. An wishes Mrs. Hue a good health to continue teaching An and other pupils in the village.
Mrs. Hue said that she did not have a teaching method, she only taught theory deeply and thoroughly so that the pupils could grasp the knowledge. Then, she gave exercises from basic to advanced so that the pupils could practice their skills.
At the same time, every day, she updates knowledge and innovative study programmes to adjust teaching methods. The important thing is to create interest and passion for pupils.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Hoa Phu Commune, Hoa Vang District, praised Mrs. Hue for her great devotion to the charity class for sake of helping needy pupils.
She added, thanks to Mrs. Hue's teaching, the quality of education in the commune in particular and the district in general has been improved significantly. Not only does she teach for free, Mrs. Hue is also active and enthusiastic in participating in community activities and has been elected as an excellent Party member for many consecutive years.
Hopefully, she will continue her journey of spreading knowledge to pupils in difficult circumstances, so that in the future they can fly higher on the path of knowledge.
