According to the project to adjust Da Nang’s planning on solid waste treatment until 2030, with a vision to 2045, the city will invest in more waste transfer stations to complete the network of modern waste transfer stations and ensure technical requirements and environmental sanitation.

After 20 years of use, the domestic waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street in Thanh Khe District has degraded and damaged. Currently, waste compactors cannot be used due to unsuitable technology and do not ensure environmental requirements.

In recent years, the Thanh Khe Environmental Enterprise under the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC has temporarily used the station's premises as a waiting point for motor vehicles to transport garbage after the garbage is directly collected by workers from alleys, lanes, and small roads. The total daily garbage volume remains at only about 50% compared to before. As a result, a number of waiting points for garbage transportation have arisen on nearby streets.

Director of the Thanh Khe Environmental Enterprise Nguyen Viet Hung informed that currently, the enterprise only used the garbage transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street as a waiting point for garbage trucks with a capacity of 4.5 tonnes and 7 tonnes. The total amount of garbage brought here is only about 18 tonnes/day.

Head of the Office of Natural Resources and Environment of Thanh Khe District Ho Van Dung stressed the necessity for building a waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street which will be in line with the district’s planning.

Mr. Nguyen Nho Khiem, Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Civil, Industrial and Technical Infrastructure Works in Da Nang, said that aside from the waste transfer station on Nguyen Duc Trung Street, the unit is taking steps to submit to the municipal People's Committee for decision on the investment policy for the waste transfer station in Ngu Hanh Son District.

According to the project to adjust the city’s solid waste treatment planning until 2030, with a vision to 2045, the city will develop a network of waste transfer stations that meet environmental requirements and feature closed technology.

As planned, domestic waste transfer stations will be built on Nguyen Duc Trung Street in Thanh Khe District, and in the districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang.

At present, contractors are concentrating on constructing the waste transfer station in Cam Le District with many technical improvements and optimal technology compared to the ones in Son Tra District and on Le Thanh Nghi Street. The station is expected to be completed in August 2025 to celebrate the Da Nang Party Congress.

Mr. Dang Que Hung, a representative of the consortium of SEEN Engineering Joint Stock Company and Saigon Transport Mechanical Engineering Corporation said that the contractor is focusing on building the factory and machine base to bring the equipment for installation in mid-May 2025.

He informed that the domestic waste transfer station in Cam Le District has many technical improvements. In particular, additional anti-impact steel plates will be installed between the waste chute and the factory floor when in contact to increase the life of the project. The structure of the garbage compactor slide rail will be improved to increase the life and be suitable for the type of waste in coastal areas with many oyster shells, clams and sea sand as well as mixed with bricks, stones, construction waste.

Other improvements towards environmental protection include raising the side walls of the waste chute to prevent waste from falling onto the factory when receiving large-tonnage garbage trucks for dumping; and arranging additional nozzles of the automatic car wash system to wash under and behind the garbage trucks to avoid causing environmental pollution on the streets.

“The garbage transfer stations in Son Tra District and on Le Thanh Nghi Street have been and are being maintained and technically improved in a bid to ensure the stable operation and prolong their lifespan. The factory design has arranged a waiting position for the installation of additional garbage compression equipment to easily increase operating capacity in the future” Mr. Hung added.

With the Cam Le garbage transfer station to be completed in August 2025, Da Nang will have modern garbage transfer stations put into operation with many advantages in terms of technique and technology, meeting the requirements of collecting, transporting, and treating garbage of the city. This will greatly contribute to make the landscape and urban environment become cleaner, more beautiful, and more civilized, Mr. Hung noted.
