Investment in new parks and promenades

The pavement along Chuc Dong Canal, Hoa Phu 7 residential area, Lien Chieu District, once abandoned and overgrown with weeds, has now been renovated into a park of over 400 square metres. The project includes gardens, trees, flower beds, stone benches, fitness equipment, and a children’s play area.

According to Mr Tan Thanh Dung, Head of the Front Work Committee of Hoa Phu 7 residential area, the park’s construction budget came from social contributions, with Mr Dung’s family contributing VND 100 million and other local residents contributing nearly VND 30 million. “This is a pilot project. We will continue to mobilise resources to expand the model to other residential groups,” Mr Dung said.

In Hoa Vang District, a park along Quang Xuong - Tuy Loan 1 Road, Hoa Phong Commune, is being completed. The project is valued at VND 400 million, of which nearly VND 210 million was contributed by local residents. “The goal is to create a community space, encourage residents to exercise, and improve quality of life,” stressed Mr Nguyen Ba Tam, Chairman of Hoa Phong Commune People’s Committee.

Similarly, a plot of more than 2,800 square metres in Hoa Chau Commune is also being planned as a park, following the model of state-funded infrastructure combined with social mobilisation for planting trees and installing fitness equipment. This project is linked to the One Billion Trees initiative for the 2021-2025 period, aiming to promote the tradition of tree planting and raise awareness of environmental protection.

Priority for park development

According to the Division of Economic- Infrastructure and Urban Affairs of Hoa Vang District, the district-level People’s Committee has listed 91 planned sites for parks and promenades under the approved master plan, with a total area of more than 66 hectares; at the same time, it has proposed 46 new planned sites with an area of over 33 hectares, submitted to the Department of Construction for consolidation and reporting to the Da Nang People’s Committee for official inclusion in the city’s list of park and promenade locations.

The district is focusing on preparing investment for urban-level parks and promenades in three communes: Hoa Phong, Hoa Chau, and Hoa Son. It is coordinating with the Management Board of the Da Nang’s Priority Infrastructure Projects to propose the investment policy for a central cultural park. At the same time, district departments are working with local authorities to invest in six parks and promenades using the district’s budget in Hoa Lien, Hoa Phuoc, Hoa Tien, Hoa Chau, Hoa Nhon, and Hoa Khuong communes.

According to the Da Nang Department of Construction, the city has made significant progress in green space development through investment in parks and promenades. Currently, there are 258 park and promenade projects across the city with a total area of 4,016,516 square metres. These have been planned and are being implemented by district-level People’s Committees. Among them, 168 projects have been completed, 28 are under construction, and 62 have not yet been implemented.

The investment in parks and promenades is actively carried out by district-level People’s Committees using their annually allocated management funds. Additionally, based on proposals from relevant units, from 2021 to 2024, the city People’s Committee allocated nearly VND 500 billion from the city budget to invest in nearly 70 park and promenade projects. Alongside the state budget, funding for green parks and promenades is also being mobilised from social contributions to help raise awareness among residents and businesses, contributing to environmental protection and urban beautification throughout the city.

According to the Department of Construction, in the coming period, the city will continue to boost the construction and renovation of parks and promenades; strengthen social mobilisation to attract more resources for green space development, improve residents’ quality of life, and move Da Nang closer to its goal of becoming a green, clean, beautiful, civilised, and modern city.
