In the bustling rhythm of urban life, there are still those who quietly contribute and unite the community with all their heart. One of them is Mrs Nguyen Thi Thien, the leader of the Residential Group No. 36, Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District. For over 8 years, she has not only been a bridge between the government and the people but also a beacon of unity, helping to build a civilised and safe community.

Her modest house lies in the K20 revolutionary base area, a national historical site. On the wall are certificates and awards recognising her contributions. Most recently, she received a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee for her outstanding achievements in ethnic affairs and policies for the 2019-2024 period. Now 43 years old, she has nearly 20 years of social work experience, including 8 consecutive years as the leader of a residential group. In this role, she understands her responsibility: not only managing the population and implementing policies but also caring for the lives of each household.

Every day, she spends much time walking through narrow alleys, knocking on doors to check in and understand people's concerns. From encouraging residents to maintain environmental hygiene, visiting elderly people, helping the poor, to solving local problems, she does everything with dedication. "Being a residential group leader is not just a management job, it’s a responsibility to the community. I always strive to make our residential area a place worth living in, where everyone feels connected and cared for," says Mrs Thien.

Not only does she fulfil her duties well, but she also takes the initiative to create many innovative ways to promote community activities. One of the most effective actions has been encouraging residents to maintain public hygiene, urging them to clear drainage channels on roads during the rainy season to prevent flooding.

She actively promotes the removal of illegal advertisements and requests each household to take down posters, keeping the urban landscape clean. As a result, Residential Group No. 36 no longer has posters stuck on utility poles and fences as before. Recently, she launched the “Flag and Flower Road” movement, which was warmly welcomed by the community. The streets in the area are now beautifully decorated and cleaner, contributing to a more civilised environment.

Residential Group No. 36 is one of the most populated areas in the ward, with more than 500 permanent and temporary households. Ensuring security and managing the population is an essential task that Thien always prioritises by constantly updating population data and requiring landlords to register temporary residence. She also coordinates with local police to monitor security. As a result, the area has remained stable, with no theft or social issues. Thanks to her close attention, residential group 36 is always one of the safest areas in Khue My Ward.

What makes Mrs Thien beloved by the people is not only her enthusiasm and responsibility but also her compassion. She is always ready to help the poor, mobilising donors to support disadvantaged families and providing scholarships to children in need. Thanks to her timely care and support, Residential Group No. 36 now has no poor households, and no children have dropped out of school.

According to Mr Nguyen Chung, Secretary of Da Man 5 Party Branch, Mrs Thien is an exemplary residential group leader, dedicated to her work. With such a large area and a large population, the work is very demanding, but she always excels at her duties. The activities in residential group 36 have achieved excellent results, and the local government has great trust in her leadership.

Learning from President Ho Chi Minh through simple, specific actions that are close to the people, Mrs Thien is one of the "keepers of the flame," quietly spreading the spirit of unity, responsibility, and love to every resident in the community.
