Delicious Quang Ngai corn spring rolls
Corn spring rolls are one of the most popular rustic specialities in Quang Ngai Province. Local people often enjoy the delicious dish when the weather gets cold or when the corn harvest arrives.
The Quang Ngai Restaurant at 133 Luong Nhu Hoc Street in Da Nang’s Cam Le District is an ideal place for trying this delicious dish.
The restaurant’s owner, Ms Nguyen Thi Ha, was born and grew up in Quang Ngai Province. She said that the success of this dish depends very much on the quality of the corn, and therefore she only chooses glutinous corn.
Corn spring rolls are served with vegetables, soft rice paper and a dipping sauce |
To make corn spring rolls, sliced corn is mixed with thinly sliced lean pork or shrimps, shallots, red, white and spring onions, and appropriate seasonings. This is all wrapped in soft rice paper and fried until it turns yellow. The spring rolls are served with vegetables and a small bowl of garlic chilli fish sauce to give an amazing mixture of unique aftertastes!
Owner Ha decided to open her first restaurant on Luong Nhu Hoc Street because the street is very crowded with students, including some who come from Quang Ngai Province. After the success of this first restaurant, Ms Ha opened another 2 near the University of Economics - at 37 Phan Tu Street, and on Le Thanh Nghi Street. Together they employ about 40 students, and each of them can earn around 1.2 million VND per month.
